FORMULA One season can also be shopping season.
Just ask the throng of shoppers who braved road closures to shop in the heart of the F1 area.
Shoppers at Suntec City mall said the road closures did not deter them as they could still take the MRT or drive through East Coast Parkway.
Housewife Riza Parhan, 30, said: 'I came here to buy a gift for my husband. It's not difficult to come here if you're taking the train.'
Flashing her shopping bags, she said she had found her husband a present - a Braun Buffel wallet.
Mr Timothy Lim, 35, an accounts executive who works in Raffles Place, said it was convenient for him to shop in Suntec City as it is just one station away.
He had bought about $100 worth of clothing from G2000.
He said: 'There are not that many places to shop around in Raffles Place so I came here instead. The range of clothing here is wider and Suntec's activities, such as the go-kart, make it more worthwhile to shop here.'
Mr Lim was referring to the karting session that Suntec has organised for shoppers who spend at least $50 in a single receipt.
Mrs Sarah Ong, 30, a secretary, was accompanied by her mother and two children.
She said: 'I'm on leave today so I decided to take my children out after picking them up from school. I think it's still easier to come to Suntec City by train because I have to transit to get to Orchard Road.
'Besides, there's a wide range of shops here catering to children, like Toys'R' Us and Build-A-Bear Workshop.'
Among the few who drove to the area was Mr Kenneth Tan, 36, a sales manager who works in nearby Millenia Tower.
He had spent $200 on electronic appliances at Carrefour.
He said: 'I live in Havelock Road so if I drive through the ECP, the traffic flow is still not too bad. Suntec is just a short walk away so it makes sense to shop here.
'Millenia Walk is nearer my office but I couldn't find what I wanted there so I came here.'
