Incident: Singapore A388 at Zurich on Jan 26, 2013, could not vacate runway after landing

By Simon Hradecky, created Sunday, Jan 27th 2013 15:26Z, last updated Sunday, Jan 27th 2013 15:26Z
A Singapore Airlines Airbus A380-800, registration 9V-SKT performing flight SQ-346 from Singapore (Singapore) to Zurich (Switzerland), performed an eventless approach and landed safely on runway 34. When the crew attempted to turn off the runway, already in contact with ground control although still on the runway, the nose gear steering did not respond forcing the crew to stop the aircraft on the runway and forcing tower to instruct several aircraft to go-around.

The aircraft was towed off the runway about 20 minutes after landing. No landings at Zurich were possible for that period of time, takeoffs continued on runways 28 and 32.

Gossip indicates, that the nose gear steering mechanism literally froze up preventing nose wheel steering. After thawing the nose gear steering became responsive again and the aircraft was able to depart for the return flight SQ-345 on time (about 3.5 hours after landing).

The airline confirmed a technical issue prevented the aircraft to vacate the runway.Same Aircraft in another incident in your Changi Airport.

A Singapore Airlines Airbus A380-800, registration 9V-SKT performing flight SQ-637 from Tokyo Narita (Japan) to Singapore (Singapore), landed on Singapore's runway 02L at 17:48L (09:48Z) however momentarily veered off the runway before coming to a safe stop.

The French BEA reported the momentary runway excursion resulted in damage to some runway edge lights as well as rapid exit taxiway lights. There was no visible damage to the aircraft. Singapore's Authorities are investigating the incident.

WTF the use the same aircraft fight back to SG without fully check the problem. If crash landing in Changi Airport then that will be biggest mistake by SIA.

i have very bad opinion on GLCs, sometimes, i think their share prices are over valued. btw, if you make some money out of them, time to get out. when you hear many people making money out of their shares, time to cash out and move on!

SIA is just getting more and more fucked up by the day....as with every other GLC run by these fucking incompetent clowns they parachutenin from the SAF....

Only dumb stupid sinkies would continue flying SQ. Risking life and limb in the misplaced patriotic beliefs.

They have been known to hide, mislead and poorly maintain their aircraft.

Previously the A380 was allowed to fly even though there were engine problems, claiming its all minor issues. But Qantas, upon learning the same problem immediately grounded their planes. Embarrassed SQ had no choice but followed the grounding not due to safety concerns but public pressure.

Qantas action was proven justified when one engine dropped off during flight.

If they were left to their devices, SQ would continue flying. Good luck flying with an airline that puts your safety behind their profits.

Ang Moh mentality safety 1st. Chinese mentality profit most important than safety and others.

that's what happens when you purge all the ang moh FTs.

that's what happens when you purge all the ang moh FTs.

wtf are you talking about?

its gopt nothing to do with FTs but a simple matching of skills to the job. if SIA's management which was then made of of mostly local talents had risen to be a world class airlines from the 70s to even as recent as the turn of the millenium...wtf do they have to resort to angmohs or whatever FTs...wtf do they have to employ these fucking has been jiakliaobee generals and pay them fat salaries to jump on a steep learning curve....

wtf does does running a fucking clown organisation that employs conscripted labour got any fucking thing to do with a for profit business organisations like SMRT or SIA??? wtf do these clown generals know how to run a business when they probably cant even succeed running a fucking mama shop.....

not a fucking thing so wtf are these clowns taking those jobs???

NBCCB.....
