SINGAPORE - The Traffic Police arrested 14 drink drivers and booked five drivers for speeding in a two-and-a-half hour island-wide operation.

The operation started on March 16 from 1.30 am to 4 am with road blocks set up along Outram Road, Lavender Street, Keppel Road, Yio Chu Kang Road and Sengkang East Drive.

Police officers administered the breathalyser test to 64 motorists. 12 men and two women, aged between 23 and 60 years, failed the test and were arrested for drink driving.

The highest breathalyser result clocked was 100 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, nearly three times the prescribed legal limit of 35 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath.

Five motorists were caught for speeding by Traffic Police's speed enforcement cameras. The highest speed 102 km/h clocked was 42 km/h above the road speed limit.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Cheang Keng Keong, Commander of Traffic Police said: "Safer Roads Singapore is a nationwide initiative aimed at enhancing road safety in Singapore.

"We will not let down on our efforts against errant motorists and will take them off the roads if they prove to be a menace to others and themselves. Let's keep our roads safe for all."
