SINGAPORE: 137 suspected drug offenders have been arrested in a 48-hour operation by the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB). 14 of those arrested are suspected to be involved in drug trafficking activities.

Drugs worth more than S$160,000 were seized, including approximately 1 kilogram of heroin, 43 grams of 'Ice' and other assortment of drugs.

The raids covered several parts of Singapore including Ang Mo Kio, Bukit Batok, Bishan, Clementi, MacPherson, Marine Parade and Yishun.

In one incident on May 8, officers raided a HDB unit at Eunos Crescent and arrested two suspected drug offenders, a 28-year-old male and a 54-year-old male.

About 46 grams of heroin and 22 grams of 'Ice' were recovered from the unit. Numerous drug paraphernalia were also seized from the unit, including an improvised drug-smoking apparatus.

Both men will be investigated for drug trafficking. If convicted, they may face a minimum of five years' imprisonment and five strokes of the cane.

In another raid on the same day, a 46-year-old suspected drug offender was arrested at a HDB unit at Chai Chee.

About 11 grams of heroin, a small amount of 'Ice' and drug paraphernalia were recovered.

Investigation into the drug activities of the man is currently ongoing.

In a separate case, a 43-year-old man was arrested after he was believed to be distributing drugs from a HDB flat in Jurong West.

His hideout was raided, and CNB officers recovered about 290 grams of heroin and cash amounting to S$2,350 from the unit.

The 43-year-old man will be investigated for drug trafficking. If convicted, he may face the death penalty.

In another separate operation conducted on May 8, CNB officers foiled a drug transaction in the vicinity of Geylang Lorong 36.

Two men, who were suspected drug traffickers - one 53 years old and the other, 58 years old - were arrested.

CNB officers recovered about 500 grams of heroin, a small amount of cannabis and S$10,439 worth of cash in total.

Officers also arrested one of the men's associates, a 52-year-old man, at a hideout in Serangoon North. About eight grams of heroin and a small amount of 'ice' was recovered.

Both the 53-year-old and 58-year-old men will be investigated for drug trafficking. If convicted, they may face the death penalty.

Investigations into the role of the 52-year-old man is ongoing.

Mr Ng Ser Song, Director of CNB, said that the CNB will continue with its enforcement action against illicit drug activities to maintain a strong deterrent presence against both drug traffickers and abusers alike.
