An admitted teenage assassin was found killed execution style with six others in central Mexico, CNN reports.
Jose Moreno Leos, 13, was arrested three weeks ago and confessed to participating in at least 10 murders for a Mexican drug cartel, Zacatecas's state's attorney told CNN.
Leos also told investigators he was "good at shooting with a high-caliber weapon," Arturo Nahle Garcia said.
The boy was released by the attorney general's office in compliance with Mexican law, which doesn't allow the incarceration of anyone under the age of 14.
The boy had missed a court appearance on Feb. 20, and his mother said she'd lost control of him when he left home at age 11, CNN reported.
Leos's body was found beside a highway with four girls and another boy, police said, adding that all had been shot execution style and they were all young people.
