SINGAPORE: 110 people suspected for involvement in loansharking activities were arrested in an island-wide operation that lasted 39 hours.
The suspects, comprising both men and women, are aged between 16 and 75 years.
Police said 15 suspects were believed to be involved in loansharking activities as harassers, or as runners who assisted the loansharks in their businesses.
They are believed to have helped to carry out ATM transfers and distribute flyers promoting illegal loan facilities.
Five other suspects are believed to have provided false contact information when obtaining loans from loansharks.
The remaining suspects are under investigation for opening bank accounts and giving away their ATM cards and PINs to loansharks to facilitate their unlicensed moneylending businesses.
Police said investigations against all suspects are ongoing. - CNA/gn
