Nanyang Siang Pau reported that a 101-year-old woman in Singapore died on New Year’s Day.
Her 61-year-old daughter Xue Xiu Zhi said her mother, Rui Zheng Xin, died in hospital at 11pm.
It was learnt that the centenarian succumbed to complications following a blood transfusion.
Rui, which is a synonym for number one in Chinese, was also born on Jan 1.
She had another son and 11 grandchildren.
Xue said her mother went through a tough life and raised her three young children by herself after their father died.
