BEIJING, Dec 28, 2009 (AFP) - At least 10 people were killed and 19 injured when more than 100 vehicles rammed into each other early Monday in a massive chain reaction pile-up on a foggy, icy road in east China, state media said.
The accident in Jiangxi province occurred on an icy bridge near Poyang Lake, one of China's largest freshwater lakes, when vehicles moving in opposite directions collided, the China News Service reported.
Following the initial collision, further accidents ensued due to the fog as cars and trucks continued to collide in a pile-up that stretched for more than a kilometre (0.6 miles), it said.
