“中国海警船正好出现在钓鱼岛和石垣岛之间中点的海域。这时间点简直就像是掌握了高洲丸出海捕鱼的信息后，打伏击一样。”
在接受日本冲绳县当地媒体《八重山日报》事后采访时，组织这次闹剧的石垣市议员仲间均如此回忆当时的窘境。

此次，仲间均以“钓鱼岛守护会”的名义，乘协会所有的高洲丸号前往钓鱼岛附近海域“捕鱼”。说是“捕鱼”，但高洲丸排水量仅有4.8吨，船上只有仲间和船长高江洲正一两人。他自己都承认钓鱼岛周边海域常年浪高2米左右，高洲丸作业十分吃力。
高洲丸在5月23日凌晨4时25分离开石垣登野城渔港。中午12点左右抵达钓南小岛附近海域，作业从12时40分一直到晚7时左右。原定晚上9时回港，但收到同行的日本海保船通知：回程路上有中国公务船。为保险起见，仲间他们在船上过了一夜，第二天早上七点多出发。
尽管如此，还是遭遇到中国海警船了。
仲间称，大约在24日上午9时20分左右发现中国海警船，正好位于钓鱼岛和石垣岛中点海域。这时机就像是掌握了高洲丸出海信息后打埋伏一样。
本次出海还有日本海保船同行。“海警1501”一度抵近到高洲丸30-50米处。在其中一艘海保船上，海上保安官站在甲板上拿着扩音器对仲间他们大喊“改变航向！”

仲间称，“想把发动机停下来，看看中国公务船会怎么行动。”但是海保一直用扩音大喊“不要放慢速度！”、“不要挑衅中国公务船！”。仲间苦笑：“海保的指示不得不从。”
追击持续了约一个小时，虽然对面没有做出要冲撞高洲丸的姿态，但仲间评价：“如此执着地追击，让人感受到中国的认真程度。”
本次出海前，仲间也接受了《八重山日报》的采访，原本计划在4月出海。但因高洲丸发动机一度故障，推迟到5月底。仲间回到石垣港后苦笑说：“中国人是不是事先看了八重山的报纸啊”，所以才会有如此行动。

他还批评自民党政府：又建设港口，又提出公约，又做相关表态，“但现状是渔民不准进入钓鱼岛1海里内，这次同行的海保船就把我们阻止了。”
