‘MACC motorists’ arrest two policemen for bribery
GEORGE TOWN: Two policemen were arrested for allegedly accepting RM800 bribe from Malaysian Anti-Corruption Com_mission (MACC) officers who went undercover as motorists.
The two, a constable and a lance corporal, in their 20s, sustained minor injuries after they fell when struggling with the officers in the 1.30pm incident at Gurney Drive yesterday.
It is learnt that, after receiving complaints from the public about bribery involving policemen in the area, two MACC officers committed traffic offences so they would be approached by the policemen.
It is believed the suspects had demanded RM800 from the officers to let them go. When the MACC officers took out a pair of handcuffs, the policemen threw away the money.
The injured policemen were sent to the Penang Hospital for outpatient treatment. They were later brought to the Penang MACC headquarters at about 7.15pm to facilitate investigation.
Penang MACC director Datuk Latifah Md Yatim confirmed the arrest but declined to elaborate.
