Any one knows the history behind this Sam Leong Road?

If you look at the Area Map above, all the roads have angmo names, like Rowell, Maude, Desker, etc.

Or they have Ah neh's, name, Malay or Arab names, like Verdun, Syed Alwi, Jalan Besar, etc

Or even colonial heritage names like Rangoon or Serangoon.

WHY THE FUG DID A CHINK GET TO NAME HIS ROAD SAM LEONG ROAD?????

WHO THE FUG IS SAM LEONG???? LPTK???? :D

Don't go ape on this. A cursory check with mr Google reveals this baba piece. No credit to kiwi-ed forum boss here

Extract:
Besides having contributed significantly to Singapore, and the Straits Chinese communities, Sam Leong was also one of the pioneers who assisted in building up the prosperity of Malaya. His business contacts extends far beyond the shores of Singapore and Malaya. In return for his contributions, “Sam Leong Road” – between Jalan Besar and Verdun road – was named after him.

it's named after ong sam leong, a business magnate who lived from 1857 to 1918. his tomb at bukit brown is the largest (as big as a 3-room bedok flat). besides delving into timber, rubber, and real estate, he cornered the coolie-trafficking market for phosphate mines on christmas island. and he had his cake and ate it too by opening a sundry shop on christmas island catering to the coolies he cornered.

What about lee hsien loong? He cornered the coolie trafficking market for white collar jobs in singapore and sold them public housing. Will he get a longer road named after him?

I don't think he would be satisfied with just a road. The familee wants buildings, landmarks, airports, etc.
