Guards stay out of trouble
By Esther Tan

A DISPUTE that broke out in the basement of Orchard Towers on Tuesday afternoon has raised questions about the role of security guards in a conflict.

Mr Brandon Khoo, 30, told The Straits Times that when he asked a security guard for help in restraining a man who had turned aggressive, the guard turned down his request.

'He just looked on, and then left,' said the musician.

Police confirmed they received a call at 4pm about the altercation in the Orchard Road mall.

Mr Khoo said the incident began when his friend was shoved by the man. When confronted, the man became aggressive, punched Mr Khoo and tried to escape. Three bystanders came forward to restrain him, said Mr Khoo.

By then, more than 50 people had gathered to watch the dispute, but none offered to help.

Mr Khoo said three guards came by at different times, but none of them took action either, even when asked to.

What's your take on their behaviour? Should they or shouldn't they interfere in such matters?

My take is that they should, but most of them won't.
They think that their job is simply to follow the instructions of the building management, and drink coffee and read newspapers the rest of the time.

If security guards were to adopt such working attitude, we might as well not have them at all. Just a waste of time and resources.
Their attitude is like some public servants and officials and also some employees.
Just follow the orders of the bosses and people who pay them.
People are people. Fucked up.

Guards stay out of trouble

Security officer duty is to safe guard within their premises base on their assignment and must not get distracted.

it is the same policy as LKY/LHL/GCT bodyguard performing duty must not leave their "Master" no matter what happen.

(But for Division1, he must keep LKY dickhead in his mouth until the 85 years old LKY dick can errect fully function)

Security officer also cannot make arrest except Police officer otherwise risk being sued for wrongful arrest or detain.

The best is call Police and thats the end of the story.
