Reform Party releases 19 policy pledges in its election manifesto

The Reform Party has released 19 policy pledges in its election manifesto online which it will implement should it gain a majority in the government one day.

Though it admits that it may not form the government at the next general election, it promises to ensure that the voices of Singaporeans will be heard in Parliament by its elected MPs.

“Imagine how much more effective the Reform Party will be once we get into Parliament. And we do not want to leave it there. At the next election after this we hope to be in a position to be taken seriously as the alternative government in a genuine two-party system,” it said.

Some of the policy pledges includes providing cheaper housing for the lower income families, paying a basic old age pension to all Singaporeans, imposing a Minimum Wage system, reduction of National Service to a year and requiring new citizens to serve National Service.

The pledges are likely to be widely popular among Singaporeans who are feeling increasingly marginalized under the rule of the pro-foreigner PAP.

The Reform Party said it “believes that Singapore belongs to its people and that government should serve the people and not the other way around.” and pledged “to build a first-class modern nation, in line with the rich and advanced democracies of the world.”

Though Singapore is one of the richest countries in the world, its government is akin to totalitarian states like China, Burma and North Korea ruled and dominated by a single political party.

The ruling PAP has governed Singapore continuously for more than fifty years. While elections are held frequently, the opposition hardly stand a chance due to unfair election laws, rampant gerry-mandering and pork-barrel politics.

The people-centric policies of the Reform Party will win widespread support from ordinary Singaporeans.

I predict PAP will hit hard on the Welfare suggestions during the Elections...

Lawsuits coming????

These 19 are LONG OVERDUE in Singapore history. Singaporeans have long been suffering and RAPED repeatedly.

What ALL OPPOSITION must do is to give ALL SINGAPOREANS A CHANCE TO VOTE. They must CONTEST THE WHOLE OF SINGAPORE.

They will be pleasantly surprised if they did so. Singaporeans would thank them.

They have to include the following –
1) Ensure that all ministers and office bearers including mid and high level civil servants declare their assets once every 2 years. This is to prevent corruption and this is a practice that first-world democratic countries have.

2) Ensure that the people that manage Temasek are accountable for all their actions. This is with respect to numerous legal fiascos in foreign countries involving their investments.

3) To seek Temasek’s acknowledgment that it is indeed not a sovereign wealth entity and is indeed a private entity and to seek Temasek’s response to why they have not sourced for direct funds from other investors other than the people of Singapore.

4) To study the usefullness of Temasek and whether our reserves are better managed by more prominent and successful investors. In other words, Temasek may be dissolved due to their high remunerations that offset any gains they may make.

5) To ensure free university education for all Singaporeans who have served their national service or if their father has served national service.

6) Provide better transport facilities and to return the main public transport companies (SMRT and SBS) to the government so that customer satisfaction and not corporate profits are the transport industry’s main focus.

7) To ensure recording of all police interrogations and to allow lawyers into the interrogations after a 24 hour wait.

8) To open up the media industry, especially the newspaper and broadcast industries to more competition and to remove all government control over the media and to dispel self-censorship as a pathetic excuse for the dissemination of propaganda.

9) Reignite CASE so that they will take on consumer complaints more rigorously and to seek out ALL companies that sell goods or provide sub-par services.

10) Look into the management of our unions and ensure that workers' issues are cared for.

11) Ensure that the inflow and reneweing of FT work permits are done properly.

12) Setup a government agency to handle the inflow of FTs and to ensure that FT's, especially the lower paid ones are not exploited to work here. Concurrently, to ensure that FTs do not pay more than 2 month's wages for agent fees.

13) Study all government agencies to ensure that there is a singular goal in terms of ensuring jobs for Singaporeans first.

14) Each individual is not allowed to own more than two homes. FTs are only allowed to own one home. Set up an agency to ensure that the surplus homes are put onto the market in a timely fashion so as not to overheat or devalue the prices of these properties.

Lawsuits coming????

PAP is just going to try and demolish the points. Netizens should know when PAP will use lawsuits, when they will use criminal laws, when they will use smear campaigns.

Of course PAP themselves sometimes also do not know.

The only plausible lawsuit to come from this would be against you for insinuating that the RP has committed a crime.

A precedent was set when LKY sued Tang Liang Hong for a similar stunt as yours.

PAPies and their supporters should take note that the law cuts both ways and that the international arena is and will be watching our judiciary closely.

Scare mongering is not to be allowed anywhere because it is despicable and shows a lack of ethics. Making insinuations against someone or a party to reflect them in a bad light without proper facts or proof is an offence in court.

Mr mnokie, this is no the first time you have succummed to such a lowlife act of scare mongering. I would be very mindful of what I wrote if I were you.

With the 154th in place, we can expect that either these propositions from RP will not be shared with the general public or shared but only selectively and with negative 'studies' to show that the PAPies know better.

The onus is on RP and the rest of us who support a more-than-one party system in SG to do our part to ensure that as many people as possible know of RP's position and the rationale and expected results from such propositions.

They will definitely try. Something along the lines that all our reserves will be wiped out by this populace robin hood liberalism. And this will eventually bankrupt the nation, resulting in our women becoming maids in foreign land.

No amount of engineering can undo what the PAP has installed!

This can never happen because their assets are not in millions but billions  These ministers make millions a year with multiple salaries, the billions in assests in not surprising.

If they declare their assets, it will shock the nation, so shocking that there will be revolution!

Simple math will show that even if we set aside $50B for our own use, we can actually help make the lives of Singaporeans much better.

If this $50B is left with GIC and Temasek, whatever that is gained will eventually be paid to the people that work at Temasek and GIC and these people are not cheap, singularly and collectively.

The investments made by Temasek and GIC will always mean very little in times of economics crisis as their investments will drop in value. So, what is the point of investing the reserves thinking that it will be useful in times of crisis????? History and common sense shows that this idea is idiotic.

Our accumulated reserves should be split in such a way that part is used for investments and part to make the lives of Singaporeans better.

Let the people know. We have had a one-party, undemocratic political blanket for far too long. The people need to know that the days of a one-party Singapore is over.

There will be no revolution other than the voting out of a political party that has shown continued disinterest in the well-being of its people.

>>...imposing a Minimum Wage system<<

Are they retards? Minimum wage system is flawed. It will actually result in hyperinflation if not carried out well.

Then we will only have to do it well.

HOW? Ensure that no one increases their prices without a valid reason. It is not difficult if SIngaporeans do their part. WIthout the PAP and their scaremongering, Singaporeans will again begin to work together cohesively as a unit for themselves as well as for each other.

Everytime the PAPies increase the GST, we get an increase in almost everything, including water and prata. What has the PAP done to stop this? NOTHING!

ANything is better than the PAPies. The PAPies are tried and tested and they have failed miserably.

Any talk about reducing Ministers' salaries by at least 50% and tying salary increases to some formula?

16)Continuing Business and Foreign Investment Friendly Environment coupled with low tax rates.
17)Greater help and support for local SMEs to grow world-class companies.
18)Abolish restrictions on freedom of expression to encourage creativity and innovation necessary for a 21st century knowledge-based economy.
19)Reduce waste and inefficiency in government starting with slashing ministerial salaries and replacing it with performance-linked earnings tied to indicators directly related to your welfare.
The local people had been lately downtrodded by the dominant PAP regime with so many of their unacceptable policies and now we can be more cheerful that the opposition parties are coming up with such election manifestoes for the Singapore general election before May 2011.
