Unless you're illiterate or have an IQ of less than 10, what on earth do you need an agent for??? They're nothing but con artists.

All you need to do is go to the appropriate website and download the forms and the accompanying instructions. Read the contents and fill the form up accordingly.

You are right!

Don't waste your money on these immigration agents. I know of many who they themselves could not emigrate to any western English-speaking countries.

I did not bother to use one for Australia. Some agents made mistakes and delayed their clients' applications.

If you want to use one for Australia, get a MARA registered one. https://www.mara.gov.au/

If you do not need a registered agent, anyone of us can be your agent.

Sam, unless you have an IQ worse than that, you should know that a person making heaps by the hour would rather contract a specialist to do such menial work for him.

(Jus another thought)
if a person makes heaps per hour, he or she should have contacts on good migrant lawyers by asking someone to do the finding.

If filling up the forms was a long, tedious task, I'd agree with you. However, in most cases, it's a simple straightforward process. It took me less than an hour. The principle of comparative advantage simply doesn't come into play at all.

The only tedium involved is going for medicals and getting good conduct certificates and you have to do that personally anyway.

Emigration agents try to make out that insider knowledge and special contacts are required in order to have an edge of other potential emigrants but that's a load of bull. Emigrating to China may involve knowing the right people but the traditional destinations all have transparent processes.

As a family, we went through an agent. They did all the work for us. What my wife and I needed to do were to give them the necessary documentations(i.e certified copies of passports, marriage certificate, resume etc) and they submit the application for us. The value add that an agent gives is to find the best and easiest route (i.e visa type) for an applicant to go in. There are so many types and one needs to do a lot of research before one can decide on the type of application to get in. Our approach was to let the agent do the work for us. We applied in October 2006 and I came in via Victorian State Government sponsorship. It took us, i.e. from application submission to grant of visa, approximately 9 months. The money that we paid to the agent is well spent.
If you need the agent, let me know. Good Luck.

The forms for western countries are designed for the layman. It does not require any special skills for most skilled migrants. The country's website will guide you thru including qualifying points.

In some cases where the person has structural issues such as previous minor convictions an agent may be necessary for the tribunal submissions.

The issues are just organising the documents that you already have and information that you need to collect. Both of which do not require an agent. Agents generally give the impression that it is hardwork and complicated.

Here is a simple process and its starts with mental conviction. That you need to complete the process within 90 days and have a hard stop with a date.

1) Download the application and fill in the easy and readily available information. Guess what you achieved the 2 biggest hurdles - one downloading the form and two finding out that 90% of the information is readily available.
2) Now that 90% of your form has been completed, spend 2 days researching the web of the country's immigration dept and finetune the visa category that best fits your profile.
3) The 3rd step is the hardest for most - collating the original documents and finding a lawyer to attest to it. Just pick up the phone book, look for Commissioners of Oath, and call. The receptionist should be able to quote you the price. Now you have completed 95% of the requirement.
4) Last step - go personally and submit the documents.

Most people spend months finding the right agent.

I know a Head of Cash Management of a major bank in Sydney who did it in one weekend and spent Monday at the lawyers before submitting it. If he went thru an agent, the wayang and drama would have taken 1 months to give the impression that its hard work.

If you don't qualify, you might want to use an agent. I have come across chaps that would not qualify but have crossed. I have no idea why and these chaps have no idea why. It might be a gamble or money well spent.

WHATEVER IT IS AGENT OR OMO - PICK A DATE 3 MONTHS DOWN THE ROAD AS A HARDSTOP AND GET THAT APPLICATION IN. Don't come out with cockamayme arguements like family discussion, discussion with in laws, assess racial discrimination, glass ceilings, singapore safe to walk after midnight, which city to move to, school for the kids. For heaven's sake, it s a 1st world country.Get the application in, get the approval and you have 3 to 5 years to decide if your mother in law has more say than you.

This is about the very only sane reason why one shld use an agent, nothing else.

Getting all the documents collated is the MOST TIME CONSUMING part of the whole process!

You left your agent with pretty much bugger all to do. To you, it's money well spent. To him, it's easy money. :p

I have to concede that as long as both parties are happy, it's a successful transaction.
