Join WP also not bad. Keep quiet in Parliament can collect money. Once every 5 years do some hard selling, like tiger like that.

U need to have a lack of ambition and willing to break promises to take up this job though. Not many people can do that.

But WP don't have guaranteed career path with golden or even titanium rice bowl...for example, join NTUC be a legal officer can be the President of the Republic, join SAF become BG & later upgrade to minister....join PAP...become MP, can sit on so many companies boards...presence in parliament not needed...can collect $16K....& grass root level work, all done by Grasslooters & PA members...

All the local university graduates...should consider this for their career path....will never starve....

Those are the successful ones. I have seen many still waiting for the tea party after years as chairman and vice-chairman of various sub-committees of the grassloots.

If you join WP, there is less competition and you can be fast-tracked to stand for GE and be elected as MP.

At least Macik spent some good years as a legal officer. Her work experience may not be regal enough for the post of a President, but you still need to meet some tough criteria before PAP pick you to stand for GE. WP is more chin chai. GG is a serial blogger, just like Xiaxue. No need to work, just blog. PS zero work experience before he stood for GE. No wonder cannot handle TC issues. The only two fellows in WP worth their salt are Mrs Quah and our Taiwanese lawyer.

that means the jobs went to foreigners. sinkie fresh grads suck thumb. see below.

http://www.tnp.sg/news/singapore/fewer-lay-offs-job-market-recovers

Fewer workers in Singapore lost their jobs in the first half of the year, one of several signs that the labour market is on the mend.

The others are a dip in the unemployment rate and the long-term unemployment rate for residents from March to June, and an increase in job openings.

Yet another is a rise in the number of residents at work in the first half of the year, a turnaround from falling local employment in the first half of both 2015 and last year.

The improved picture drawn from official figures released yesterday indicates that the hiring outlook is brightening, although demand for workers is uneven across sectors, analysts said.

Maybank Kim Eng economist Chua Hak Bin said: "The worst of the job market issues is probably behind us, and it looks like it is improving in line with economic growth recovery."

Ministry of Manpower (MOM) figures show that 3,640 workers were laid off in the second quarter of this year, a dip from the first quarter (4,000) and a year ago (4,800).

Work-study scheme draws keen interest

Three in four retrenched residents were professionals, managers, executives and technicians.

3,640

The number of workers laid off in the second quarter of this year, a dip from the first
quarter (4,000) and a year ago (4,800).

For citizens, the preliminary seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 3.3 per cent in June, better than 3.5 per cent in March.

As for citizens and permanent residents combined, the rate improved a notch to 3.1 per cent, from 3.2 per cent.

The overall rate, however, remained unchanged at 2.2 per cent during this period.

Still, the various rates are higher than a year ago, and MOM said unemployment and long-term unemployment for residents could remain elevated in the medium term.

The reasons are ongoing economic restructuring, the job-skills mismatch and shifts in the make-up of the resident labour force, it said.

Meanwhile, almost two-thirds of residents retrenched in the fourth quarter of last year were back at work in the second quarter of this year.

But those aged 50 and older continued to face difficulties. Their re-entry rate was 52 per cent.

Singapore also employed fewer foreigners, with the pool shrinking by 21,400, excluding domestic workers.

Labour productivity rose 2.8 per cent in the first half of the year, against the same period last year.

Sectors that did well include manufacturing, transport and storage, and wholesale and retail trade.

close of 69% of students in graduate classes in NUS and NTU are foreigners.
close to 50% of students in undergraduate classes in NUS and NTU are foreigners.

The rest of singaporeans can go MDIS, Kaplan or SUSS to study which in turn, offer jobs for former-PMET lecturers who lost their jobs to foreigners.

Most young graduates choose to become insurance or real estate agents because of the upside in earning potential. But most eventually only get the downside.

GAHMEN should provide the exams LIKE PSLE that all can sit for (even at university level), so that EVERYONE can get a good chance to qualify as 'educated', not just those who go to NUS, NTU etc.

It's called "professional examinations". It's very common in Taiwan. It's certification after certification. Every profession requires a certification. People don't care which university you graduated before you sat for the professional examinations.

in sg, it's better for sinkies to get a poly diploma in tech. forget biz admin, social science, arts and humanity, and other bs. with a tech major sunkies will learn coding, programming, scripting, tinkering with instrumentation and hardware, hands-on on some up-to-date, relevant projects that demands brains, hands, hand-eye coordination, and overall packaging to derive solutions. moreover, most projects require group contribution and teamwork, and scrums happen on a daily basis. in sillycon valley now those skills are what tech recruiters look for. can apply for abbreviated university studies (2 years instead of 4 or 3 years instead of 5) in an engineering major in u.s. with a sinkie poly diploma. while studying or finish studies can secure a job. desperate employers are sponsoring work visas. better hurry or else 6.9 out of 10 h1b goes to ah neh with a fake degree who is sponsored by the big 4 ah neh contractors.

In today Sinkieland, an ITE certificate worth much more than a Degree from mainstream education or a Master Degree from private university.

I had seen quite a number of of N Level people with ITE certificates doing well in their career now earning $6000 to $9000 a month. These group of people did not upgrade themselves with private degree or diploma either.

ITE is no longer the end for academic poorer students.

Moreover the cost of studying in ITE is much lower than Polytechnic, NUS/NTU and other private universities.

So Sinkies should not worry about having more babies, ITE is good choice for your kid education

That is the same thing you vote for the PAP, you expect to get upside potential in looking after you...but eventually you get the downside service...

Spoke to a senior IT guy and he said that Singapore is desperately short of coders and programmers to the tune of about 40,000 and the government is not revamping the education system fast enough both at the vocational and tertiary levels to plug the gap.

The demand is only going to increase as more businesses go digital and every company in effect becomes a 'tech company'. That's why we're still so dependent on foreigners.

Our rote-learning, exam-orientated and streaming-based education is passé. But instead of a thorough relook and revamp, our cabinet is more interested in how to conserve a dead man's house and 'elect' a minority president. Such is the visionary leadership of the PM and his team.

Some of those who vote for pap do get the upside. Those are the smart ones. The stupid ones get the downside but continue voting for them, thinking that they will eventually "upturn the downturn".

That is the same thing you vote for the PAP, you expect to get upside potential in looking after you...but eventually you get the downside service...

Don't need name change, u just need to be an elite.

invited MNCs or foreign companies can have their foreign-worker quota waived. It is happening in blue-collar, PMET and management positions. eg F&B industry buay song that the chink hotpot company get this waiver and competes unfairly against them.

KNN not only we don't protect jobs for locals, it is also unfair to local SME towkay john tan!!!
Or Towkay Tan also enjoy the foreign-worker quota waiver because of his exceptional contributions in grassloots?
