Russian President Vladimir Putin is a phenomenon who can bring peace to many across the globe, football legend Diego Maradona told journalists in Moscow, adding that he views US leader Donald Trump as a cartoon character, who can’t be treated seriously.

“I think that after [Hugo] Chavez and Fidel [Castro], Putin – together with [Ariel] Ortega and Evo [Morales], represent the ‘top league” of political leaders, said Maradona, who arrived in Moscow on Friday.

“Putin is a man who can bring peace to many in this world,” he added, describing the Russian leader as “a phenomenon; simply a phenomenon.”

The legendary Argentinean said he didn’t see US President Donald Trump among the elite, saying, “For me, he’s more of a comic.”

“He’s like a cartoon to me, if we talk about politics… Every time I see him on TV, I switch the channel,” he added.

The 56-year-old footballer said he didn’t believe that America is currently the dominant force on the international arena.

“One shouldn’t forget about Russia, China, about North Korea. The US isn’t the county sheriff anymore. We’ll find a gun to match the one they have,” he said.

Maradona stressed that no one wants war, but “when you see such cartoon characters like Trump, you begin thinking that if such a man takes it into his head we may all become enemies.”

Latin America is feeling “increasing pressure from the right. By right, I mean the US,” which is bad for the continent, he said.

“The right is stronger now. The right has more money. They can buy a lot of things. And I’m outraged because of it – as under previous presidents, the people at least had food, but now in Argentina there are people who are starving. It’s sad. Very sad. And it’s not only Argentina. Brazil, as well,” he said.

WASHINGTON — President Trump began his holiday weekend getaway with another denunciation of the news media, using a celebration of American veterans and freedom at an evening rally to thunder that he would not allow the “fake” media to stop his agenda.

Speaking to raucous supporters at a faith rally at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, Mr. Trump brought the crowd to its feet by condemning news organizations.

“The fake media is trying to silence us,” Mr. Trump told the crowd at the concert hall, after returning to Washington briefly from his weekend getaway at his golf club in New Jersey. “But we will not let them. Because the people know the truth. The fake media tried to stop us from going to the White House. But I’m president and they’re not.”

Mr. Trump praised American veterans and promised to defend religious liberty in America. Earlier in the day, the president also posted on Twitter about the fake media and accused secretaries of state from around the country of trying to hide something from a panel investigating widespread voter fraud that experts say never happened.

In a Twitter message on Saturday morning, Mr. Trump said that “numerous states are refusing to give information to the very distinguished VOTER FRAUD PANEL. What are they trying to hide?”

Mr. Trump set up the Presidential Advisory Commission on Voter Integrity to find evidence for his debunked claim that millions of votes were cast illegally in the 2016 presidential election. On Wednesday, the group sent a letter to all 50 secretaries of state asking for personal data about the nation’s 200 million voters.

The response from many of the state voting officials was a resounding “no.” In Mississippi, the secretary of state, Delbert Hosemann, a Republican, said: “My reply would be: They can go jump in the Gulf of Mexico.”

Mr. Trump’s tweet suggests that he is not happy with those responses, but it is unclear what he can do about them. The commission chairman told news organizations on Friday that it was up to each state to decide what information to share with the panel.

The president started his Saturday tweet storm on a positive note, offering a “Happy Canada Day” to the people of that country and to his “new found friend” Justin Trudeau, the prime minister.

But his tone quickly turned negative.

He continued his attack on Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, the hosts of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” two days after saying on Twitter that Ms. Brzezinski had been “bleeding badly from a face-lift” during a social event last year.

On Saturday, he added: “Crazy Joe Scarborough and dumb as a rock Mika are not bad people, but their low rated show is dominated by their NBC bosses. Too bad!”

Taking note of MSNBC’s decision to end the new show hosted by Greta Van Susteren, the former Fox News anchor, Mr. Trump asserted that she “was let go by her out of control bosses at @NBC & @Comcast because she refused to go along w/ ‘Trump hate!’”

In fact, Ms. Susteren’s show, “For the Record,” had struggled with very low ratings since she arrived at the network about six months ago.

Mr. Trump also continued his blistering criticism of CNN.

The president wrote: “I am extremely pleased to see that @CNN has finally been exposed as #FakeNews and garbage journalism. It’s about time!”

The president may have been referring to the latest hidden camera video produced by James O’Keefe, the right-wing activist. The video appears to show a producer for CNN’s “New Day” program calling Mr. Trump “a clown” and “crazy,” among other things. The producer also appears to say American voters are “stupid.”

Mr. O’Keefe’s previous videos have been found to be selectively edited and designed to disparage his subjects.

A spokesman for CNN declined to comment.

Mr. Trump and his family are spending several days at his Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, N.J. He returned to Washington briefly on Saturday night to deliver remarks at the “Celebrate Freedom” rally on behalf of veterans at the Kennedy Center.

At the concert hall, Mr. Trump stood in front of a large American flag and soaked up the adoration of a crowd of largely evangelical supporters who roared their approval of his promise to defend religious liberty, fight entrenched interests, win battles against terrorists and say “Merry Christmas” again.

“Above all else, we know this: In America, we don’t worship government. We worship God,” Mr. Trump said, bringing the crowd to its feet again.

Mr. Trump told the story of an 89-year-old soldier who fought in the Battle of the Bulge in World War II and was at the event. And he introduced a soldier who had been hurt in his fifth deployment overseas.

“Your legacy, like our gratitude, will live forever,” he said.

The problem with Trump is that he seems to be causing problems. As president he's picking fights with the press, insulting other world leaders, trying to cover up & not doing his work as a president.

He's made the US a laughing stock of the western world

Clinton & Kennedy also had their vices but they were able to be presidential when needed.

President Trump's Latest Tweet Celebrates Violence Against Journalists

Is this what he meant by "modern-day presidential"?

While Americans around the country prepare for Independence Day, President Donald Trump is continuing the game of bizarre Twitter one-upsmanship he started with himself earlier this week: After spending several days attacking Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough, Trump has now tweeted a video of himself "beating up" CNN:

#FraudNewsCNN #FNN pic.twitter.com/WYUnHjjUjg

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 2, 2017

It was intended—one has to assume—as a joke meant to celebrate the president's perceived victory over the network, which issued a retraction and an apology (and the resignation of three senior journalists) this week for a story about Trump's potential financial connections to Russia. But the result is far from funny.

Despite White House deputy press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders' claim just three days ago—which CNN tweeted in response to the Trump's video—that the president "in no way form or fashion has ever promoted or encouraged violence," her boss has proven otherwise.

"The President in no way form or fashion has ever promoted or encouraged violence. If anything, quite the contrary." - @SHSanders45 6/29/17

— CNN Communications (@CNNPR) July 2, 2017

And in light of Trump's praise for last month's victory of Republican representative Greg Gianforte, who made national headlines just one day before his election for grabbing a reporter by the throat and throwing him to the ground, the president doesn't seem terribly concerned with violence against the press. If anything, to borrow Sarah Huckabee Sanders' words, it seems quite the contrary.

It doesn't matter whether you like or don't like Trump. His record speaks for itself. What happened to all his economic promises, bringing jobs back to America, and also clearing out the Washington swamp. The swamp in D.C. is as deep and putrid as it has even been. His Trump Care will lead to 30 million people losing health coverage at a time when they need it most. All his policies are aimed solely at destroying the legacy of Obama and not about improving the lives of people.

The problem with Both "Never Trumpers" and "Always Trumpers" is that by polarizing the issues to such an extent, they alienate the middle ground and prevent any hope for a mature dialogue about what is happening. America is losing its standing in the world because of that clown in the Oral Office. Even Bill Clinton was more presidential when he walked the halls of power with his pants around his knees.

He's doing great work and and blazing his own trail. Why should he be constrained by what societal norms which are out of date?

I love Donald Trump. He's one cool dude.

His record is outstanding. Never before has a president done so much for the country in such a short period of time.

He concentrates on issues that matter and that is what makes him an outstanding leader.

"Being Presidential" is a phrase that means absolutely nothing. It's an empty compliment which says nothing about actual achievements.

So why do you like Trump? What's there to like about him? I'm not a white american & could care less of making america great again.

In Spore we already have the Lee family which behaves much like Trump. So yes I dislike such behaviour.

Anyone can rock the boat but it's harder to build a consensus & push through difficult bills. So what has Trump accomplished other than being in the news over his behaviour?

It's been 150 days since he's become president & he hasn't even filled many of the empty positions in his administration.
