Judgement Day

I have neither sympathy nor empathy for any of the Lee family members – they are, after all, the product of a wicked man’s deeds – esp the eldest son who is very rich, being way over-paid in millions. This is karma for Lky’s nefarious deeds – sending many opponents to jail without trial and evidence – notably Lim Chin Siong, the man who could have defeated Lky and became PM instead, had he not been arrested a few months before the 1963 elections. Lim, after being jailed a second time for 6 long years, left jail a sick, depressed, humiliated and broken man, eventually selling fruits for a living in exile – a far cry from the man who once stood a chance of becoming PM. That’s how LKY broke and fixed his opponents and critics so that he could continue to rule and build a legacy with its roots in the repression of opposition.

Remember Operation Cold Store, Operation Spectrum…..remember the poor, depressed souls languishing in jail, kept away from their loved ones (mothers, wives, children), for years not knowing when they are going to be released unless they confess or promise not to get involved in politics again. Remember Chia Thye Poh, Said Zahari, Lim Hock Siew, Poh Soo Kai, Teo Soh Lung, and many others. Others were banished, notably Francis Seow, who almost won the Eunos election. Others were jailed and bankrupted, like Jeyaretnam and Chee Soon Juan..…. All these done in the pursuit and obsession of power – ruining the lives of these poor souls and their helpless, despairing families while he and his family live great, privileged, wealthy lives.

Politics may be a contest for the pursuit of power; but is it that necessary to go to such extremes again and again to ruin the lives of so many so that one man can rule for decades? In the quest to annihilate opponents, a person quickly loses his sense of guilt.

“Repression, Sir is a habit that grows. I am told it is like making love-it is always easier the second time! The first time there may be pangs of conscience, a sense of guilt. But once embarked on this course with constant repetition you get more and more brazen in the attack. All you have to do is to dissolve organizations and societies and banish and detain the key political workers in these societies. Then miraculously everything is tranquil on the surface. Then an intimidated press and the government-controlled radio together can regularly sing your praises, and slowly and steadily the people are made to forget the evil things that have already been done, or if these things are referred to again they’re conveniently distorted and distorted with impunity, because there will be no opposition to contradict.”
– Lee Kuan Yew as an opposition PAP member speaking to David Marshall, Singapore Legislative Assembly, Debates, 4 October, 1956

Remember – the Heavens have eyes. Eventually, the Heavens will act to correct injustices when the time comes through a series of events. The fear of death is in every man; the fear is greatest when the man has done wicked deeds and is very afraid of the judgment and perpetual punishment he will soon face and have belated regrets; while he’s alive, he think nothing of heaven and hell and let greed (of money, power) control his mind and actions. Be good to humanity – that’s the best chance or ensuring going to Heaven. Even if you are an atheist, why take the risk? I wouldn’t want to vote for an evil legacy and end up having to answer for it on judgment day. Better to play safe than be inevitably plagued by belated regrets and irrepressible fears on your dying days, dreading the coming judgment. Power is short-lived no matter how great it is;, the next world is eternal. Mmmm…I wonder where is Lky now…..

DPM Tharman irks netizens for coming out to support PM Lee
June 22, 20171689

Earlier today Deputy Prime Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam urged Singaporeans to have confidence in the Government. He tried to explain that Ministerial Committees are not uncommon and that he himself chairs several of such Committees.

He acknowledged that the PAP-led government had its share of policies that have turned out quite wrong at different points in our history, but dismissed it as a challenge in governance that will never disappear, and is a challenge everywhere in the world.

His post touched especially on the integrity of the different generations of PAP leaders and said that they were all men of honour. DPM Tharman said that PM Lee is committed to the system of preserving the rule of law, and of policy-making that balances public against private interests.

Readers of various media outlets who responded to DPM Tharman’s message of support for PM Lee criticised him for it.

Facebook user Seng Herng Yueng who responded to our post of the story in Facebook said: “Isn’t it the job of DPM to represent the interests of the citizens ? Has he forgotten his due diligence ? So instead of questioning the PM on so many of the alleged lapses (procuring deed of gift, installing personal lawyer as AG and so many more..) he went ahead to defend him ? I hv lost respect for this supposed last good guy of pap.”

The commenters with the most likes in The Straits Times report of the story in their Facebook similarly disapproved his message of support.

Joseph Kee: “Tharman, I always thought you are the clear thinking type but you joined the fray. There is nothing new in what you said which TCH had already said. Its the big glaring conflict of interest as a committee formed by ministers all of whom reports to the central figure of this whole controversy. I would expect the government to be smarter than that. Now it seems, when it was found out of this formation of the committee, the government is trying to wriggle its way out with all sorts of excuse.”

Lucy Chong: “Yes, set up ministerial committees to look into more urgent affairs like radicalized Muslims in our midst and armed forces. Leave private affairs and Wills of others alone. Mr Lee Kuan Yew’s dignity and legacy are being tarnished by unnecessary government interference. Advise your comrades to do the right thing.”

Leong Lim: “Our honourable minister Tharman, please don’t worry in this family affair & the committee that set up to deal with the options. Why don’t u set up more committees to look into improving our country’s economy, state welfare for the underprivileged & the senior citizens, creating more jobs instead of young abled bodied young people driving Uber & Grab. It’s a waste of our education system in training only drivers!”

Commenters with most number of likes in the Channel NewsAsia’s report in their Facebook also censured the DPM.

Frederick Lim: “Why is Oxley38 committee a secret and PM claimed he doesn’t know about it? You mean ministers can set up committees without approval from the boss? And why a secret committee is set up for a family dispute? Don’t claim national interest now when GCT (Goh Chok Tong) said it was a petty family dispute.”

Lupin Duabuipanda: “I don’t see a special committee being set up when the National Library at Stamford Rd is given up for a bypass , or the iconic Rochor Center being given up for (wait a min)… A bypass. And don’t get me start on Sungei Rd.”

Danny Yong: “The fact is you guys are trying to put aside the late LKY’s (Lee Kuan Yew’s) last wishes, plain and simple. That is a total disrespect to a great man.”

Wanbao Readers were similarly critical.

(Facebook auto translation: Now we all want to know whether there is any legal protection for the will. If not, what is the meaning of this will? That’s the real point! If you like it, you’ll be able to believe that a will is guaranteed!)

Peter Leow: “建国总理在立遗嘱时情形和遗嘱的内容那么重要的东西,应该都有人记录在案和保护好,都有几个版本,我不知道怎么说服人民对政府办事有信心?” (Facebook auto translation: I wonder how to convince people to have faith in the government when the prime minister is so important in the circumstances of his will and the contents of the will.)

Singapore’s Lee family dispute could hold a lesson for its unquestioning citizens

Many feel that the Lee family dispute is an embarrassment and bad for Singaporeans. But it may actually hold a lesson.

There is no doubt Lee Kuan Yew worked hard for Singapore’s success, famously threatening that if something were to go wrong, he would get up to set it right if on his deathbed. Perhaps the conflict among the Lee siblings can be seen as a lesson designed for Singapore by the elder Lee from beyond the grave.
For Singaporeans are to progress in this modern, ever-evolving world, they must challenge established ideas and brave new frontiers in thought and action. This can only happen if no institution is considered infallible, opinions are constantly challenged, and no one is idolised. Singaporeans are being shown that, for all the success the Lees have achieved, they are merely mortal, with good traits to follow and faults to avoid.
That Lee himself was open to criticism is clear from what those close to him had to say. Eddie Barker, a friend and fellow lawyer, spoke of being summoned by an angry Lee demanding to know why Barker had criticised his proposal so aggressively in a cabinet meeting. Barker replied, “You told us to speak openly, not to be a yes-man.” Lee’s response was to tell him to continue speaking honestly and openly. A month before Barker retired, Lee pointed to him at a cabinet meeting and said, “He’s always disagreeing with me. Why don’t you guys do it more often?”.

If Lee did not consider himself infallible and was open to criticism, perhaps Singaporeans and their institutions must learn not to be overly sensitive, and defensive when criticised.
There is much good in the Singapore system, but the reluctance to question and challenge authority is not among them. The issues raised by the younger Lee siblings and the open invitation by the eldest to be questioned in Parliament should be seen by Singaporeans as a call from Lee Kuan Yew to no longer be docile sheep awaiting instructions, but path-finding questioning explorers seeking a better course for their country.

Lee family dispute may hold a lesson for docile Singaporeans

Only a weak incompetent leader would feel the need to surround himself by a bunch of Yes Men to boost his own ego but fail the country. With the kind of leadership of Lee Hsien Loong, Singapore is too small to weather the abuse from the top. He is riding on his father's legacy and his father's left over economic momentum fr a while. But the LKY momentum could only go so far. Singapore will eat up its own relevancy in a decade or two.

the route for the son becoming PM is fraught with setback, twist and turns.
Mr Goh Chok Tong becomes PM in nov 1990 was widely viewed as seat warmer for the son. The son was made deputy prime minister then. While LKY continued to hold 'minister mentor', a new post created after giveway PM post to Goh By that, it means, LKY is still tightly overseeing and monitoring the change over of leadership in the future.

Working under the heavy shadow and demand of his father,
The son was diagnosed with intermediate grade malignant lymphoma in 1992.
He was certainly not born to be a leader with so much hard work and pressure to ascend to the top.

Undergo more relax transition of take over plan after contracting cancer, the son took 12 years to under study to be potentially a PM by both Goh and LKY.

Eventually, the son was finally given a chance and green light after 12 yeas of understudy.
Still, Goh becomes 'senior minister', and LKY continues to be at the supervisory and monitoring role.
Now, the son was closely monitored by 2 mentors as a PM for more than 6 years,
then, finally, he wanted LKY to letgo to let him have a free hand in running the country.
Immediately,

In 2011, with the 'freehand', the son suffer the worst election setback for the ruling party, first time, the opposition labour party clinched additiaon 5 more parliamentary seats.

The son has not visioned or drafted any ingenious or innovative idea to lead the small nation since taking helm since 2004 till now, the son simply inherits all the same old idea from his father legacy, ie., being the hard and smart labour for MNCs, and try to add-value to renowned products and services and establish SG as a regional hub to support MNC expansion into the region.

Because with no new idea, new direction, and no new vision, the son continue the same old policies of his father and think hard to squeeze on productivity, and cutting cost to ensure profitability and good GDP figure during his tenure

This lack of foresight without continue to building a robust local workforce and industry spell trouble after few years at the helm, yes, GDP figure continue to be good, productivity figure continue to be impressive, but this is at the expense of stressing the existing infrastructure to support the overcrowded rapid influx of non-skill and skill foreign workers.

The foreign worker be it skilled or non-skilled displaced the locals, with much lower wage, and with much younger age and equal or higher productivity.

Locals being displaced are left with no jobs or have to settle for a job losing much of the seniority, or have to embark on a new job at fresh entry level, most of the time, a much unprofessional job compared to the previous job.

For locals who are continuously unemployed for more than certain number of months, the statistical department would put these long-term unemployed as 'retiree' status, hence, the statistics of local employment rate is always sustained as impressively low figure.

By leverage on foreign worker, young, some well educated, willing to work extra hours, and get lower pay, SG manage to sustain a impressive productivity figure, and profit for companies, and hence good GDP figures.

This is at the expense of rapid growlng pool of 'young' retirees, and many previously local professionals now turns to non-professional jobs, for example master degree holder becomes taxi driver.

The rapid influx of foreign workers also put great stress to infrastruture due to lack of foresight to ramp up the maintenance and upgrading the capacity and performance of infrastructure.
.
Which lead to property price boom and very congested public transport system.

Then, one day the pubic transport train system suddenly collapse and major breakdown, and the frequency of major breakdown increases, then, worrisome, the son then decides an overhaul to ramp up the public transport infrastructure with tens of billion of investment.

Then, one day, property bubble curbing and prevention measures suddenly kicks in to force and curb the demands.

Then, one day, famous 'little india' riot involving hundreds of south asian foreign workers, first time in SG history since 1970. The rior is Widely perceived to be motivated by poor foreign worker hostel and welfare and treatment in Singapore. And a year after the riot, millions pour in to improve the foreign worker living, working, and welfare condition in Singapore.

The local renown universities NUS and NTU, with board of directors from the ruling party, was also under heavy criticism.

Many full scholarships have been opened to foreign students with free or very low boarding fees, until they graudate, and immediately, these foreign 'talents' was highly sought after by companies in Singapore with few years working contract.

The criticism is on nurturing foreigner in full instead of spend to nurture the locals.

Hence, the slew of unhappiness led to major setback of the son's 2011 election results.

Have to admit that the son is very much 'mediocre' compared to his father.
Though his ruling party have legislated a bill to pay all cabinet the highest pay in the world,
most notably, with the son take home 4 times the annual pay of US president.
However, the performance of the cabinet don't measure up to the demand,
the lowest 20% local income earner continue to struggle to make ends meet daily,
with staple food, and necessities inflated more than 3% yearly, and healthcare cost inflated more than 100% in the last 10 years, while lowest 20% local income earner's salary increment is much below the cost of living increases. And since taking helm in 2004, little has done to change that until critically pointed out by opposition party in 2011 election.

The son style of ruling has been very much reactive and responsive when major problem occurs than proactive, stem the potential major problem before it arises.

In feb 2015, the son again announced to the public to have contracted prostate cancer, his father demised in march that year.
A grand and prolonged, very costly and huge funeral, and all SG media broadcast only sombre contents for several weeks,
and few months later 2015 SG election begins.

all the above could very much set the stage to garner sympathetic votes to win voters by indirectly signal to voters that the son has been 'very sincere' and 'have tried his very best' to bring about the betterment of SG, and milk from the legacy of his father who has brought SG to current city state's success few months before the election and the son finally manage to win a landslide election victory in sep 2015, winning voters' votes not by meritocracy based on impressive betterment brough to local Singaporeans (as the solid facts of Singaporeans well being prior to election is not impressive) but by careful political manoeuvre to influence voters' sentiments.

On this backdrop, an incident happens prior to election was not immediately reported, in fact only 7 months after the incident took place was the incident first reported by govt controlled public media. SG oldest government linked hospital, SGH's lapses led to hepatitis C outbreak in mar 2015, At least 21 kidney patients have been infected with hepatitis C at Singapore General Hospital (SGH), with the needles used to inject insulin coming under scrutiny. Eight of these patients have died, with four deaths linked to the viral infection that affects the liver. Three died of unrelated causes while a question mark still hangs over the last death. This news was only first released in Oct after Sep 2015 election. So you can tell that a lot of political manoeuvring

In aug 2016 during national day speech in front of live TV audience of 3 millions locals, he again collapsed halfway through his speech, rested 2 hours before continuing.

This prompted the call for urgent succession plan.

Existing deputy PM Tharman is widely viewed by public to be the best successor to the son based on his performance and his calm, composure, ease of handling when faces crisis, however, was not given the chance to take on the helm.
Instead, a close relative descendent, of LKY's wife was widely rumoured in the web to be expected to take on the helm,
so far, very rapid promotion was seen as compared to other cabinet members having the same number of years of experience served, and was given many opportunity to take on important role and exposure.
Though, the performance is in the eyes of the public, he is a mediocre, except being eloquent, but lack of vision.

So, the next successor if not selected based on meritrocracy, wlll certainly spell the end of LKY lagacy

Let's not even talk about LKY's legacy.

If you read what the experts are saying, the regime doesn't know what to do to generate economic growth anymore.

They are merely just following policies made 40 years ago and tweaking it a little.

With its neighbours growing rapidly, Singapore could become irrelevant to the region and the world in about 15 to 20 years.

"With a weak recovery of the world economy, Singapore has been vexed by sluggish economic growth in recent years. How to reform and renovate the country's economic pattern is still unclear during Lee Hsien Loong's term in office."

Even this writer is saying that the regime has no idea how to grow the economy.

Right now, all it comes down to is building more and more 'pigeon holes' in the sky and sell it to foreigners at an exorbitant price.

Some are comparing this to a population Ponzi scheme.

LKY kena insulted by his own PAP ministers publicly, MPs taking turns on 3 July
Posted on June 27, 2017
It’s a fact that PAP politicians are despicable because they are all in it for the money.

When LKY was alive, every minister and MP would kow tow to him like a demi-god. No one had ever imagined ministers would stoop so low as to insult their previous master after he had passed on, ie none would have dared question his mental faculties when he was alive.

Chair of the secret ministerial committee Teo Chee Hean doubted LKY knew his own wishes according to this CNA article, “COMMITTEE’S INTEREST CONFINED TO THE LIGHT IT SHEDS ON MR LEE’S WISHES FOR THE HOUSE: DPM TEO”.

When LKY’s successor Goh Chok Tong said, “I have read DPM Teo Chee Hean’s statement explaining the setting up of the ministerial committee to study the future status of 38 Oxley Road. I support the careful way in which DPM …”, he was clearly agreeable to the possibility of LKY being senile.

The latest to jump on the LKY-wish-no-pakai bandwagon is SMOS for Law ndranee Rajah. This is actually quite shocking considering Indranee has been an MP in LKY’s GRC since 2001. Indranee is clearly worse than a hypocrite.

Since LKY’s final will was written 15 months before he passed on, he could not have been senile, ie unable to read and understand his own will. If LKY was senile, Indranee owed taxpayers a duty to inform the government that LKY was unable to discharge his MP responsibilities.

Why the need to convene a ministerial committee to analyse LKY’s wishes if he was not senile?

Indranee won’t be the last MP to spin the allegations of power abuse issue into 38 Oxley Road family dispute. Perhaps the clown minister keechiu Chan has been busy preparing to do battle on 3 July?

It appears LKY won’t be insulted by only PAP ministers; on 3 July, every PAP MP will be singing the same 38 Oxley Road tune in perfect harmony. The conductor is none other than PM Lee who, to his sister, is a “dishonorable son“.

PM Lee has proven to be incapable of standing on his own feet as a result of being spoon-fed all his life. Instead of moving with the times, PM Lee has simply continued with LKY’s repressive policies and even introduced more of his own. He has wrongly assumed that they will continue to work wonders as they did during papa’s reign.

In their desperate attempt to support PM Lee’s incompetence, PAP ministers (PAP MPs will take turns on 3 July) no longer give a hoot if LKY is turning in his grave and continue to insult him publicly. It seems they have suddenly lost all respect for their once ‘great’ leader.

The best question or the worst?

How has the saga on the Oxley 38 got to do with LHL's capability and credibility as the PM and also the credibility of his government ?

It started off as a personal and family matter , and unfortunately because his position, the personal vendetta has moved out of its boundary as LWL and LHY continue to flame and stretch the insinuation into the question of LHL's credibility as the PM.

My fears are that LHY and LWL have gone out of line.
