SINGAPORE - With black armbands and tears on their faces, traffic police officers turned pallbearers to send off their late colleague on Friday (June 2).

The party of 11, dressed in the formal white Number One police uniform, were among almost 50 police officers who paid their final respects to Staff Sergeant Nadzrie Matin at his Choa Chu Kang home.

Some of the pall bearers fought back tears as they carried the coffin, draped with the national flag, from the void deck to the hearse.

Staff Sergeant Nadzrie, a traffic police outrider, died on Thursday (June 1) after an accident along Serangoon Road at about 10.40am while he was performing his duties.

The 52-year-old driver of the vehicle involved in the accident - said to be a black van - has been arrested for a negligent act causing death.

Investigations are ongoing.

A relative said Staff Sergeant Nadzrie was married. He was from a family of five children.

From the mortuary, Staff Sergeant Nadzrie's body was brought home to Block 487A Choa Chua Kang Avenue 5 for the ritual washing and shrouding at about 12.20pm.

Home Affairs and Law Minister K Shanmugam paid his respects, describing the late police officer as a "true son of Singapore".

"Officers like him go about their duties day to day. They are the unsung heroes," he said.

Others who came to offer their condolences were Home Affairs Parliamentary Secretary Amrin Amin and Chua Chu Kang GRC Member of Parliament Zaqy Mohamad.

Friends and family could be seen sobbing as prayers were read over the body at the void deck of the block.

The body was then taken to Al Khair Mosque at Teck Whye Crescent, where hundreds had gathered for funeral prayers, filling the ground floor of the three-storey mosque.

Arriving at the cemetery shortly after 3pm, the late Staff Sergeant Nadzrie received a final salute from his colleagues as his body was lifted past them.

More than 1,000 people attended the burial at the Pusara Aman Muslim cemetery, including Mr Amrin and Commissioner of Police Hoong Wee Teck.

Staff Sergeant Nadzrie was laid to rest at about 4pm.

Plse lah. Hes just doing his job as a TP. If he did not catch and summon those idiots who ride or drive recklessly endangering themselves and also the public, who know, u may be the next victim of hit and run.

Innalilla wa innailaihi rajiuun....

Doing this job? What was he doing? Perhaps he was the one riding dangerously himself thinking he was king of the road.
How many TPs on the road you see 'doing there jobs'? Most times their only job is become outriders and protection for pappies to Ensure they travel smoothly.
TP got catch that machi Ferrari driver? TP arrest road bullies? I dun see them around when shit happens.

K Shanmugam condemns 'sick post' about police officer who died in Serangoon accident

Singapore
SINGAPORE: Minister for Home Affairs and Law K Shanmugam on Saturday (Jun 3) condemned a "sick post" about the recent death of Traffic Police officer Nadzrie Matin as an "insult to all police officers".

"I was deeply upset and angry about a gloating post that one Thomas Chua has made on Police Officer Nadzrie's death," Mr Shanmugam wrote in a Facebook post. "Nadzrie died while on duty. Thomas was gloating about Nadzrie's death, because Nazdrie had given him a ticket!"

Calling Mr Chua's comments "deeply offensive to Nadzrie's family", Mr Shanmugam said people like Mr Chua have "no decency or any sense of right and wrong".

"What is a TP officer to do when someone breaks the law? It is because of officers like Nadzrie that the rest of us have safety and security," said Mr Shanmugam.

"You wonder what human decency people like Thomas have - to be so self-centred, smug and making nasty remarks about an officer who died doing his duty. While there is a completely distraught wife, grieving parents and family, and teammates who are crying."

Mr Nadzrie died in an accident along Serangoon Road on Thursday while carrying out traffic patrol duties. He was given a ceremonial burial on Friday.

Gloating might seemed Low to some but everyone is entitled to their opinions.
Just because you're mourning dun expect the rest of the world to mourn with you.
Why impose your will on others?
Why dictate how others should behave or control what they say?

I think it is obvious to say that the TP was ridding high speed for his bike and himself to be thrown so far away, it does not look like at all that the van hit TP at high speed, since van had insignificant impact damages.

Safe to say that if TP bike was slow or normal speed it would had been only a very light accident, possibly no hurt.

The TP dept have to tell the public weather the TP was on a mission necessary to speed or not, from TP's duty dispatch record & from TP's bike dash camera.

Serangoon Road at Mustafa area speed limit only 50 or 60, if you drove a bit faster the TP will book you already. If you hit Ah Neh dead, they will revoke your license!

He died doing his work. There is nothing to suggest he was doing something untoward. Not sure why he is being targeted in the first place. This forum has no qualms about quartering anyone caught doing something that is not right.

There must be basis for an opinion. Hating the Police Force is entirely fine and quite commonplace in some quarters but why this guy who lost his life in a road accident. Seems very odd to me.
