Serious Tai Chi Image Destroyed Beyond Repair

I think the image of Chinese culture/tradition and Tai Chi are now badly bruised beyond repair.

About 7 days back, MMA Xu Xiaodong destroyed Tai Chi Master Wei Lei in 10 secs flat in a real no-holds-barred fight. The fight was stream lived from Shichuan China. The agreement was no gloves, may poke to the eyes, kick groin. The youtube video went viral and became the talking points
all over China's media and TV channels.

Xu Xiaodong really should have the support (a straight talking honest guy). He was pissed off by Wei Lei who did the ill-mannered thing when they argued; Wei revealed the personal info, tel contacts etc of Xu to the internet without his permission - that resulted in the ultimate challenge and fight.

Chen Tai Chi thugs:

Chen Tai Chi students are no different from thugs. 7 burly young man surrounded MMA Xu at a building's lift Lobby and prevented him from leaving a building - demanded a one-to-one fight on the spot (7 facing off one target). Great Shame!

Xu Xiaodong blew whistles on Shaolin Monk Yi Long,
Many anti-Jap fights are arranged:

Chink martial arts have no real substance. It's too flashy and lacks real combat experience, regardless what their origins claim. It's hard to believe that chink martial arts have no exposure to grappling like wrestling or judo, which is what people would naturally engage in, when they fight in close quarters. The fight naturally goes to the ground, but in chink martial arts, people fight mainly with their fists and kick awkwardly with their legs.

I am glad that chink did us all a favour and exposed tai chee for the fake art it really is.

MMA is also a form of martial arts; a mixture of Muai Thai, mixed-boxing and wrestling. In martial arts, like in sports, you got to be fast, sharp, accurate and powerful to beat your opponent. If you are fast and powerful but not accurate or if you are sharp and accurate , but not powerful, it is useless against an all-round opponent.

After the fight, Xu Xiaodong was really heated up and issued a challenged to "all" Tai Chi masters. But he explained in later interviews that he was only trying to fight the fakes; he said 90% of all traditional martial art masters are fake - they cannot fight. Many in China are infuriated by his saying Chinese martial arts cannot fight.

If you say Tai Chi is only for health, then don't show off video's about the efficacy of Tai Chi as a fighting art.

I know some physics and have some understanding about the physics of forces. There is a specific form of demonstration by these Tai Chi masters about their prowess in going against a "greater" force. They have a row of ten men in line pushing against the one in front and finally against the Tai Chi master. It is utter silliness. If it were ten men versus the lone Tai Chi master in a rope tug-of-war, it would be the most interesting. Yet supposedly well known masters like Chen Man Ching, Chen Xiaowang both demonstrated resisting the push of ten men without realizing they have no clue about the mechanics of forces.

I cannot comprehend silat. It is forever slow motion. Like some kind of foreplay.

The slow motion is for the practitioner to get their strokes correct. It is useful for beginners in martial arts. Even for western boxing, we get beginners to punch slowly so as to get their techniques right. The speed will gradually increase when the practitioner gets his basic right. The traditional arts also do their stuff faster, but there is a belief in traditional arts that you will automatically move fast in a real situation. There's some anecdotal evidence on that though.

Today, most of these traditional arts is nothing but choreographed dancing, but some old-timers will insist that they have learnt some lethal shit that can kill a man with a single punch with their chee. But of course, these old fogies claim they are too scared or too modest to use them, and these arts are only taught in secret to selected students.

If you understand Chinese, you could google for Xu Xiaodong youtube. He is a very practical guy. He did not say there never was any true Chinese martial arts; he only talk of the present situation. He explained why for real fight, nothing at present is better then MMA - they train mainly to knock you flat! You read 20 books on Tai Chi theory and practiced some dance and you wanted to challenge an MMA fighter with 20 fights under his belt - it is plain foolishness.

That Wei Lei is really the ultimate dumb dumb. He should know himself to be a charlatan beating a watermelon; he piled stupidity over stupidity by accepting the real challenge! He should first accept, then say the Communist Central Standing Politburo does not allow such fights!

Best regards,
Chan Rasjid.

Chink mma, aka Sanda kickboxing.

It's a weird hybrid of boxing, muay thai and even wrestling, except you have to do all that wearing boxing gloves. Even foreigners want to try out sanda in the chink olympics for sanda.

Tai chi practiced by ordinary folks is for health. However, beyond the basics, it is a martial art for combat. Its specialty is 'avoiding the attacking force through swift rotation of the body and throwing the opponent off balance by pushing or pulling him in the same direction as his applied force'. a basic practice is pushing each others arm and rotating the body. Problem is if he is not fast enough to siam the punch from the mma fighter and yet not trained to take such a solid punch, he is a dead duck.

In all fights, if we are not trained to take blows, we can forget about whatever moves we have mastered.

See this popular Kingsmen movie fight scene from 1:30 to 1:35, where the punch from the local ah beng is re-directed to fat ah beng's face. That's about as good as tai chi gets.
It's darn hard to do it in real life.

So far, when it comes to dodging punches, boxing techniques are still the best despite western boxing getting lampooned by practically every chink martial artists and movie for being useless.

There's nothing like bobbing and weaving, or using your hands to swiftly deflect a punch followed by a quick counter-punch. And always keep moving.
