Why would the PAP be desperate? They won all GEs in nearly every ward by comfortable margins. PAP is in no danger of being voted out, regardless the quality of their candidates. Even a moron from PAP should be able to beat a talented oppie.
A PAP candidate brings with him/her all the resources from the grassroots and government. An oppie MP can only tap on his personal contacts and whatever resources the government allocates to that ward, and the oppie MP still needs to seek permission from the PAP grassroots advisor. A PAP candidate can double or triple-hat several positions.
Most voters are aware of that. So I think your scaremongering scenario is overblown.
On a serious note, the cutting down of JCs from 8 to 4 speaks volumes of what's happening inside. The demographics didn't just appear out of the blue. They had well over a decade to prepare yet, it happened when they are face to face with the oncoming freight train. Remember, LHL's sister was head of MOE for a long time. Tharman, TCH, HSK and now 2 ministers were in charge of MOE. Such a simple issue, these overpaid people cannot solve or manage and yet they have the face to show themselves in public. Now, they are talking about much bigger projects like the HSR, Jurong town upgrading, Woodlands upgrading, Changi airport, Tuas Megaport. I am very sure that these projects cannot be managed by the fatten, overpaid PAP ministers. We are definitely digging a bigger hole for our future.
