A fighter pilot was forced to eject during an attempted landing on the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson in the Celebes Sea, south of the Philippines, the US Navy has said. The pilot was recovered safely.

The F/A-18E fighter jet, which was part of Carrier Air Wing 2, was on final landing approach after conducting “routine flight operations,” US 7th Fleet Command said in a statement. The incident is under investigation.

“There are no apparent injuries at this time,” the Navy said, noting that the pilot has been evaluated by medical personnel aboard the Carl Vinson.

The carrier is the flagship of a task force that was “steaming out toward the Sea of Japan” the White House said earlier this month.

On April 15, however, the Navy posted a photograph on Flickr with a description placing the Carl Vinson in the Sunda Strait, several hundred miles south of Singapore.

The Carl Vinson battlegroup was deployed in East Asia in January. According to the US Navy, the carrier is accompanied by the missile cruiser USS Lake Champlain, and destroyers USS Wayne E. Meyer and USS Michael Murphy.

Developed by McDonnell-Douglas and manufactured by Boeing, the F/A-18E Super Hornet is a single-seat, twin-engine, multirole combat jet that has been in US Navy service since 1999. Its intended replacement, the F-35C, is behind schedule and over budget.

A pilot was forced to eject from a Navy F/A-18E Super Hornet fighter jet while attempting to land aboard the USS Carl Vinson as the carrier steamed north toward the Korean Peninsula on Friday, according to the U.S. Navy.

Crews quickly rescued the unnamed pilot who wasn't hurt, the officials said. The Carl Vinson was in the Celebes Sea at the time, south of the Philippines.

The single-seat jet, from the VFA-137 Kestrels squadron, was conducting "routine flight operations" before it crashed, according to a statement from the U.S. Navy’s 7th Fleet. It did not specify exactly when the pilot ejected, and the cause of the crash was unclear.

'THE SWORD STANDS READY': PENCE WARNS NORTH KOREA

Navy officials have said the Carl Vinson, intended as a show of force to North Korea, will arrive in the region next week. The carrier has been making its way from Singapore to the Sea of Japan since last week, making stops in Asia along the way.

Top U.S. officials have described the deployment as a message to North Korea as it conducts missile tests, and may be planning a nuclear test.

"The incident is currently under investigation. The pilot is being assessed by the medical team on board USS Carl Vinson and there are no apparent injuries at this time," the 7th Fleet added.

The United States periodically sends aircraft carrier strike groups to waters near the Korean Peninsula to project power. The Carl Vinson took part last month in the U.S.-South Korea war games.

The Carl Vinson is accompanied by two guided-missile destroyers and a cruiser with Aegis combat systems to track and intercept missiles.

　　美国本月中旬在阿富汗针对极端组织“伊斯兰国”据点投下一枚号称“炸弹之母”的巨型炸弹，消灭至少９５名武装人员。但阿富汗媒体指出，阿富汗安全形势令人担忧，美国动用这种“大杀器”的效果究竟如何，仍有待评估。

　　分析人士认为，美国连“炸弹之母”都用上了，恰说明先前的清剿行动未能达到预期目标。驻阿美军指挥官约翰·尼科尔森先前承认，美国在阿已经“陷入僵局”。

　　【清剿行动效果平平】

　　当地时间４月１３日晚７时左右，美军在阿东部楠格哈尔省向“伊斯兰国”一处据点投下一枚绰号“炸弹之母”的ＧＢＵ—４３型大型空爆炸弹。炸弹重约９.５吨，爆炸威力相当于１１吨ＴＮＴ炸药。这是美军迄今使用过的最大非核炸弹。

　　阿富汗国防部１８日证实，这次空袭造成９５名武装人员死亡，包括１３名“伊斯兰国”在阿富汗的主要头目。随着清理工作的展开，“战果”可能继续增加。

　　据英国皇家三军研究所统计，现阶段在阿富汗有大约７０００至８５００名“伊斯兰国”武装人员及其追随者。随着“伊斯兰国”在伊拉克、叙利亚的败退，今后可能会有更多这一极端组织的成员流窜到阿富汗境内，制造事端。

　　【近半国土难言控制】

　　一些安全分析师说，阿富汗安全保障力量本身薄弱，再加上外国驻军从２０１４年底开始减少，更是留给恐怖势力可乘之机，楠格哈尔省的安全形势实际上是全国安全形势的缩影。

　　按照此前的撤军计划，到今年１月，美国驻军人数应减少至５５００人。但是由于阿富汗安全形势动荡，驻阿美军眼下仍有８４００人。

　　根据美国阿富汗重建特别监察长办公室今年２月发布的一份报告，阿富汗政府目前实际能够有效控制的领土只有５２％，与２０１５年的７２％相比下滑明显。

　　报告还指出，在过去半年多的时间里，全国至少有１５％的领土遭反政府武装渗透。此外，据联合国驻阿富汗援助团统计，２０１６年阿富汗共有３４９８名平民在暴力冲突中丧生，另有７９２０人受伤，这是自联阿团２００９年开始系统记录平民伤亡以来的最高纪录。

　　《阿富汗时报》１９日指出，虽然美军朝“伊斯兰国”头顶上扔了一颗“炸弹之母”，但打击效果究竟如何，有待评估。报道援引当地百姓的话说，这一极端组织在楠格哈尔省的电台依然“正常运转”。

　　一些分析师说，麦克马斯特到访很可能与美国下一阶段在阿富汗的反恐策略有关。一些人猜测，特朗普的安全团队正考虑升级美军在阿作战行动。

　　不过，也有专家指出，如果特朗普政府决定增兵阿富汗，动员部队和完成配套工作也将耗费数月时间，但目前情况是阿富汗政府的军事力量远不足以完全控制局面。

　　“安全部队几乎是在全国范围内同时和塔利班、‘伊斯兰国’等武装组织的各个分支展开多线作战，常常顾此失彼，而且面临着装备有限，军人数量有限的困扰。”阿富汗军事专家瓦希德·莫吉达接受新华社采访时说，比起美军的炸弹，当地百姓现在更担心‘伊斯兰国’接下来是否会针对美军的空袭采取进一步报复措施。
