Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev signed a decree on Monday, allowing citizens of 18 countries visa-free travel to the Russian Far East starting August 2017.

The list includes Algeria, Bahrain, Brunei, India, Iran, Qatar, China, North Korea, Kuwait, Morocco, Mexico, UAE, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Tunisia, Turkey, and Japan.

The new rule could dramatically increase the number of tourists to the region, according to the Ministry of Far East Development.

“We’d like to see an increase in tourism to the region by at least 30 percent. Given the fact that every wealthy tourist spends at least $1,000 in the territory, we assume this will significantly increase the opportunities for the development of the region, trade turnover, and currency flows,” Deputy Minister for the Development of the Far East Pavel Volkov told TASS.

People from the countries will have simplified entry procedures into Russia through the free port of Vladivostok.

According to Volkov, tourists and entrepreneurs will only be required to fill a form on the website of Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Applications will be approved within four days. Electronic single entry visas will be issued directly at the Russian border and will be valid for 30 days.

"We are proactively forming the modern infrastructure and creating special regimes in the Far East; the law on visits to the free port of Vladivostok was approved in March," said Prime Minister Medvedev.

He added that the ending of visa procedures for tourists and businessmen "will promote the growth of investment and tourist attractiveness of the Far East."

Isn't the russian far east formerly a part of China? Anyway thought russians are super nationalistic? Oh yeah they have the largest landmass in the world but the majority is uninhabitable.

Btw what's the issue with the russian far east that used to be a part of Qing dynasty but got taken over by russia and somehow China doesn't want it back from russia although a lot of Chinese live there.

I know mao zedong removed territory of the shan state today out of Chinese territory too to get rid of the guomingdang which had retreated there. I know that present day mongolia used to be a part of the qing dynasty but was used as a buffer zone between russia and China so got independence. The thing is why has't China sought to claim back the russian far east? I guess fighting with russia isn't a good idea?

Most of Russian Far East historically belonged to Russian Czar, but a smaller portion was part of Qing Dynasty which lost it during Russo-Japanese wars - including Vladivostok 海参威, the area of territory lost during then (1904-1905) includes entire NK and parts of South Korea.

Russia’s Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said on April 17 tourists and businessmen from 18 nations can visit the Russian Far East without visas.

"I have recently approved the list of countries, whose nationals can take advantage of the preferential regime. Businessmen and tourists will not need to undergo the traditional procedure of Russian visas receipt," the Prime Minister said. It will be enough for foreigners "to enter their data on a special website in the Internet," Medvedev said.

"We are proactively forming the modern infrastructure and creating special regimes in the Far East; the law on visits to the Vladivostok free port was approved in March," Medvedev said.

Cancellation of visa procedures for tourists and businessmen "will promote growth of investment and tourist attractiveness of the Far East," the prime minister said.

The region will earn more money from tourist traffic growth, he added. Eighteen countries from various regions selected by the reciprocity principle were included into the list, Medvedev said.

"This is not because these states are situated at a closer or longer distance - we are appropriately introducing bilateral agreements on visa-free travel for those ready to use such an approach for us," he added.

According to the official site of the Cabinet, the list of 18 countries comprises Algeria, Bahrain, Brunei, India, Iran, Qatar, China, North Korea, Kuwait, Morocco, Mexico, UAE, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Tunisia, Turkey and Japan.

Useless chinks as usual can't even hold on to their lands.

Qing Dynasty TOO CIVILIZED became CORRUPT & WEAK, because they were TOO STABILIZED for TOO LONG PERIOD, their POPULATION OVERGROW, ADDICTED to Narcotics like OPIUM. For a nation to be strong the existing North Korean Ways is the closest to being RIGHT. Must NEVER PAMPER Citizens, make lives hardest, absolutely no assurance nor security, from children to old people struggle non-stop for survival. No Freedom nor Rights, and Absolutely NO CHOICE. Let EXCESS USELESS PEOPLE PERISH, waste no resources to feed / pamper them, and lower the population and resource consumption. DICTATOR GARNER 100% of STRENGTH & POWER to FIGHT EXTERNAL ENEMIES, EVERY DAY is a WAR DAY.

Invade like Genghis Khan and eliminate foreign powers and foreigners, take TREMENDOUS HUGE RESOURCES under control, SWEEP GLOBALLY. Leave nothing to the enemies in terms of resources. NK is unable to do this.
