SINGAPORE - The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) on Saturday (July 9) urged banks to learn from the recent robbery at Holland Village and to assess whether their security measures need to be enhanced.

In a statement following Thursday's heist at a Standard Chartered Bank branch - during which a teller handed over $30,000 to a robber - the MAS said it expects banks to perform thorough security threat assessments and to have adequate measures in place to address these threats.

"These measures could include CCTV surveillance, alarm systems, panic buttons and security personnel. MAS' guidelines are not prescriptive," said an MAS spokesman on Saturday.

On Thursday, a Caucasian man walked into the Standard Chartered bank branch, slipped the teller a piece of paper with his demands and walked out with $30,000 in cash.

The suspect is still at large.

The branch, which did not have a security guard present when the brazen robbery took place, has since stationed one there.

A Stanchart spokesman also said that it has in-branch security measures such as closed-circuit TV cameras and staff who are well trained to respond to such situations.

The teller who handed over the $30,000 also did the right thing, by acting "in the best interests of our customers and our colleagues", the Stanchart spokesman added.

You mean they don't have these anymore?....there used to be part of the security systems for any tellers, a panic button located at the bottom of every teller, a green & red button. They are linked to the manager's office & the red one, will trigger on an alarm that will go off in the premises. The manger's office will have CCTV view of all the tellers, once the green button, is pressed, a light will go off, indicating HELP is needed or some emergency....the manger's will have a silent button once pressed is connected to CISCO HQ, indicating something is wrong, & armed guards will have to come within a certain time frame...

Plus nowadays with sophisticated CCTV & physical presence of an Auxiliary Police...in the picture of this SCB branch, there is a huge sticker, indicating CCTV.....nor turn on?

You mean, nowadays all these security , emergency measures, are not in place....that is why the robber, must have known about this, must have wet between the legs of one of the female teller there & was given information...

This what I am thinking also.....this ang moh must have worked for or doing some work for the bank to know the insides....& the teller, who gave the money, in accordance to the Bank's statement, was following the rules.....most likely , must have been made wet between the legs, many times by this man.....

Logically speaking....if you walk into any bank's branches anywhere in the world....with a note that says..give me S$30,000...the teller, comply & you walk out, just like that....that person must be "magic"..

If only they had one of those cardboard police figures out front of the bank. I'm sure it would have scared the robber:biggrin:
