SINGAPORE - A suspected drug syndicate leader was nabbed and more than $236,000 worth of drugs seized by Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) officers in two separate operations on Thursday (June 23).

The suspected syndicate leader, a 56-year-old Singaporean, was arrested after a raid at his hideout in Lorong 39 Geylang, where 1.8kg of heroin, 130g of "Ice" and 40 Erimin-5 tablets were found in his room.

A few hours later, officers at Bedok North Road arrested a 46-year-old Singaporean suspected to be his associate at a nearby carpark. The man was escorted to his residence where drugs and cash were found, along with a bottle of methadone in his car.

Before 3.30pm near Jalan Bukit Merah, a suspected drug trafficker was also arrested after driving into a carpark. The 48-year-old Singaporean had about 500g of heroin and more than $13,000 in cash on him.

CNB officers then raided his unit, where they recovered more heroin, a digital weighing scale and empty plastic sachets.

A 62-year-old Singaporean was arrested there as a suspected drug abuser. A 22-year-old Malaysian who was suspected to be a drug courier and had $14,500 in cash hidden under the seat of his motorcycle was later caught as well.

Investigations into the drug activities of all the suspects are ongoing, the CNB said in a media release on Friday (June 24).

Under the Misuse of Drugs Act, people convicted of trafficking more than 15g of pure heroin face the death penalty.

The amount, equivalent to 1,250 straws, is sufficient to feed the addiction of about 180 abusers for a week.
