SINGAPORE - Police have arrested a 47-year-old man believed to be responsible for a series of thefts from vehicles committed in the Bukit Batok, Woodlands, Choa Chu Kang and Jurong public housing estates.
From May and June 2013, cases of theft from vehicles were reported at the multi-storey carparks in the Bukit Batok, Woodlands, Choa Chu Kang and Jurong public housing estates.
In the cases, cashcards and other valuables were removed from the vehicles.
Following the reports, officers from Jurong Police Division conducted extensive ground enquiries and follow-up investigations in a bid to apprehend the suspect.
On Jun 30, 2013 at about 2.15pm, the officers arrested the suspect along Eunos Road.
A total of 17 cash cards and one bunch of car keys were seized from his possession.
If convicted, the man faces an imprisonment for a term which may extend to three years and shall also be liable to fine.
Commander of Jurong Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Wilson Lim, commended his officers for their efforts leading to the arrest of the suspect.
As unattended valuables pose as easy targets to would-be culprits, DAC Wilson Lim would like to remind members of the public not to leave their valuables unattended or exposed inside their vehicles even if it is only for a short while.
They are also reminded to secure their vehicles at all times, and park their vehicles in well-lit places.
