2 men arrested for stealing cigarettes from hawker stall

SINGAPORE - Police have arrested two men believed to have stolen about a hundred packets of cigarettes from a hawker stall.
On March 3 at about 3.30pm, police received a report of a hawker stall that had been broken into and cigarettes stolen. Police officers then conducted extensive investigations to ascertain the identity of the suspects.
On May 13 at about 4pm, a 24-year old suspect was arrested at Kallang Avenue.
The second suspect, aged 23, was arrested in the vicinity of Mandai on May 14 at about 4pm. Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects could also be involved in other similar cases of theft at hawker centres.
The suspects will be charged in Court on May 15 for the offence of theft. If convicted, they may be jailed for a term of up to three years, fined, or both.
The police would like to remind the owners of eateries - including hawker centre stalls, coffee shops and food courts - to put in place anti-crime measures
These include the installation of sturdy receptacles and strong locks to secure their cash and wares, as well as a CCTV system to deter such criminals.
