Four arrested for Geylang assault

SINGAPORE: Police have arrested four male suspects, aged between 21 and 42, who are believed to be involved in the assault of a male victim at Lorong 23 Geylang on May 9.

Police were notified of the incident at about 5.30pm that day.

They found a man in his 30s injured with multiple slash wounds when they arrived at the scene. He was conscious when sent to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

Subsequent investigations revealed that he was attacked by four men over a dispute.

The victim is currently in stable condition.

The suspects went into hiding after knowing that the police were pursuing them.

More than 40 officers from Bedok Police Division were involved in round-the-clock island-wide operations over four days to hunt them down.

They raided several locations in Geylang, Teck Whye, Choa Chu Kang, Bedok and Woodlands in search of the suspects.

On May 12 at about 8.30pm, officers spotted one of the suspects, a 42-year-old man, along Lorong 9 Geylang. He attempted to flee, but was quickly subdued and arrested.

After investigations, officers raided a residential unit located along Champions Way at about 11.50pm on the same day.

During the raid, the suspects refused to cooperate and instead barricaded themselves inside the unit. A forced entry was made and the three suspects, aged between 21 and 34, were subdued and arrested.

Two weapons were seized.

All the four suspects will be charged in court on May 14 with an offence of voluntary causing grievous hurt with a dangerous weapon.

Commander of Bedok Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police How Kwang Hwee said: "We have absolutely no tolerance for such acts of street violence. For those who are inclined to such street violence, be warned that you can hide, but we will hunt you down.

"This swift arrest is a reflection of the hard work of our officers and their determination to hunt down the culprits."
