[h=1]Lucky Bangkok man cashes in old one-baht coin for THB140,000[/h]

BBw86S7.img

A man from Bangkok became the second lucky Thai to find an extremely rare one-baht coin that collectors are chasing after.
Panun Jewelry, a rare coin shop in Rayong, recently drove the internet wild by announcing on Facebook that they are willing to pay THB140,000 in cash to anyone who possess the rare B.E. 2505 one-baht coin.
The shop yesterday posted the good news that they just traveled to Bangkok to buy the second rare coin from a man.The lucky dude, whose name was not mentioned, said that he found the coin in some old shelves that he was about to throw away.
This particular one-baht coin was produced as an example lot in 1962. There are about 100 coins like this in existence.
They are unique because the crown on one side of the coin points directly at the Yor Yak alphabet above it.
After the first lot, about 800 milion coins of the same model were produced, but the text above the crown shifted, so the crown points at the blank space between two letters, and sorry, no one collects that one.
Panun Jewelry was the same shop that also got people to smash their piggy bank two years ago after they offered to pay THB100,000 for a rare ten-baht coin.

Six Taiwan tourists robbed in Pattaya
The China Post news staff
September 25, 2016, 12:05 am TWN

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Six Taiwanese tourists were reportedly robbed after falling into a deep sleep at a resort in Pattaya Thursday evening.
The tourists, all women, found that over NT$63,300 in cash had been stolen when they woke up Friday morning, the Central News Agency reported on Saturday from Bangkok.

The six tourists, who were traveling together in Thailand, called the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Thailand for help.

The tourists had made an online reservation at a well-known resort called VIP Villas Pattaya Palm Oasis Jomiten Beach.

In a telephone interview with CNA, the tourists said that they had found the check-in process "strange."

"After we checked in, the counter service staffers found various reasons to deny us room keys. They asked us to put our luggage in the rooms and to have a walk around," one tourist said.

The woman reportedly told staff that their room telephone did not work and that the French windows did not lock.

Though asked to resolve these issues, the staff did not, according to the tourists.

Unusual Odor

After returning to the resort at night, the tourists smelled what they later described as an "unusual odor" in their rooms.

One of the tourists, in a social media post, said the odor was "very fragrant" and that it triggered headaches and extreme fatigue.

The women — even one who was a chronic light sleeper — proceeded to sleep deeply all night, according to the post.

The following morning, the group reportedly woke to find the French window open and their wallets scattered across the floor, with over 70,000 Thai baht (NT$63,300) missing.

Help from Thai-Chinese Leader

The tourists reported the case to police through Rabu Tangthongtavee, a member of the Thai-Chinese community.

They had first asked hotel staff to report the case to police, but the request was ignored, according to CNA. Instead of helping them report the incident, staffers allegedly blamed the group of guests for failing to lock up their personal property.

One tourist said, "We dare not imagine the outcome if our physical safety had been threatened. We hope tourists from Taiwan will not stay at this villa and recommend being wary of personal property and physical safety when traveling in Thailand."

She said a staffer told them a total of seven thefts had occurred at the villa within 10 days.

Apple Daily reported that the group of tourists included a flight attendant employed by Taipei-based Far Eastern Air Transport.

The airline confirmed the report, saying that the flight attendant was on personal leave and that the company would give her assistance if needed.

New travel app to woo foreigners

A new travel mobile application has been launched to help boost domestic tourism and draw more foreign visitors to Thailand.
The app, called Destination Thailand, was jointly developed by two Thai companies, Capital Television Group and Destination Thailand News, together with Singapore-based Talisman Telecom Group, one of Asia's pioneers in mobile app development.

Destination Thailand app targets foreign visitors and expats living here.

Launched late last month, the app offers a wide range of video content and useful information about Thailand, ranging from travel experiences to tips, lifestyle, the expat life and the meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions (Mice) market.
Capital TV director Raine Grady said the Destination Thailand app targets foreign tourists and expats living here. "They will find out what's new regarding food, entertainment, shopping and events in Thailand through this all-in-one app," she said.
Ms Grady said people have shifted their attention from TV to online media. Video content is considered a crucial media platform as people spend at least three hours a day surfing the net, and this will rise.

Capital TV has produced over 5,000 hours of video footage of destinations in Thailand and Asia since 1995. It has one of the longest and most-watched travel and lifestyle TV series in English with Thai subtitles, Destination Thailand, that airs on True 364 Travel Channel and True 345 Travel Planet on the TrueVisions pay-TV platform, as well as YouTube.

Destination Thailand News provides timely news about tourism, travel, lifestyle, events and Mice activities on its website, www.destinationthailandnews.com. It has 87,000 subscribers worldwide and almost 2 million online views per month.
Stephen Morton, founder and chief executive of Destination Thailand News, expects the new app to top its category in eight to 12 months.

Talisman Telecom has ensured the latest communications tools are available on the app including chat, emergency calls, instant alerts and ad pop-ups.

Destination Thailand can be downloaded free on both Android and iOS mobile platforms.

Old man who lost family savings gets Bt1.3m in donations

The Nation October 8, 2016 1:00 am

An elderly man who lost a purse containing all his family savings of Bt15,000 in Buri Ram province has received nearly Bt1.3 million in donations.

Pan Paewphonsong, 72, received the money just days after he was spotted looking for the purse in front of Buri Ram Hospital.

Pan went to the hospital with his six-year-old granddaughter to renew her card for a person with physical disabilities, which entitles her to a monthly subsidy from the government.

"I would like to thank everyone for helping my family. I have received enough money to fix my house and support my family now," Pan said yesterday.

"I hope other underprivileged people will also receive such assistance."

Local police and the manager of a local bank have promised to help Pan manage the money, out of concern that people may try to cheat him.
