Great news. The Tebrau region is developing nicely, with Aeon BDO & Ikea Tebrau to come, and an entire array of new exciting shops at Mt Austin. I will give the Austin water theme park a miss though. Far too ex for its catchment area.

Haha perhaps you should compare the crowds at Sutera/Aeon Bukit Indah (weekdays and weekends) with the crowd at Aeon Tebrau. I think Ikea had made a v wise decision, especially considering the land purchase price.

To be fair to "Everyone owns a car" Dr Koh, HDB's public rental flats are actually heavily subsidized. I think the rental's less than $150 per month, and could even be lower.

Molek is no good for shops, and the towkays there are all filthy rich with strong holding power. Mount Austin and Sutera Utama are better areas for shop lots.

I am surprised to hear that. So far, I have met a few fellow Singaporeans who bought in my area, and they seem pretty well off. Certainly not dumping their whole life savings in, as far as I can see. Many are renting out their SG properties as well.

The issues in the media and entertainment industry is not about tight labour market and suppressed wages. It's about global competition, and Mediacorp products being generally not up to scratch. A right-sizing exercise was carried out at Mediacorp due to the plunging advertising dollars.

Of course you cant expect investment banks, IT start-ups to be thriving in Iskandar due to lack of critical mass. But manufacturing is obviously an industry that can do very well there. For that matter, global banks are more likely to choose HK as their Pan Asia regional HQ, while IT start-ups...

For many towkays investing in Iskandar, there's no need to find lots of skilled labour: just a few skilled managers and lots of unskilled ones will do.

Actually Johor itself is quite a diversified economy. Most traffic jams in JB are due to the locals, and not Singaporeans. I dont think Johor's economy needs to depend on Singaporeans going there to live. As long as 5% of Singaporeans and 10% of Malaysians/PR residing in SG view JB as a viable...
