Bro Snowbird is probably the nicest forumer around. Day in day out, he posts articles ranging from Petronas, commercial, retail, Chinese developers, 1MDB, oil collapse, corruption, bankruptcy, high speed rail/RTS failures etc etc for fellow bros and sis to read. To summarise, to him, Malaysia...

Wah ........ Even I as an accountant also blur like sotong at the technical explanation. haha..... 1 thing is for certain. Petronas has a v strong cash position and is certainly not cashless or running out of cash. Also just to add that in this era of low oil prices & low interest rates, it...

Cash reserves just mean cash lah. Petronas does have plenty of cash. Its just that they are draining that cash pile now due to the low oil prices. But they are probably still in a better cash position than 90% of the Oil & Gas companies due to its strong cash reserves built up over the years.

Actually nowadays during weekends, I see that SG Woodlands customs (not sure abt Tuas) is operating at full or close to full capacity, compared to before. Shanmugam is much better than Teo Chee Hean in this aspect. He really means what he says. So I cant really complain liao, other than to...

The CIMB Starsaver savings account is gd. 0.8% interest. DBS's multiplier program is even better, but only max $50,000 allowed, while CIMB Starsaver doesnt have this cap.

Actually SG customs have barred entry to Malaysians who come in to SG too often, but without the relevant entry permits. So far, there's nothing to suggest that MY customs is planning a tit for tat.

    JB-SIN-JB Commuting Times (DAILY)

Yah I think so too........ Of course, just like SG, the MY authorities still have the right to bar you from entering anytime. Though I havent quite seen it being enforced yet. Also it's unlikely to be enforced in the near term, given the state of friendly relationships betw SG and the MY...

Even if you are deemed to be a tax resident in MY (>183 days rule), there's not much taxes to be paid because your income is not earned in MY but in SG. You are already paying income tax in SG. Paying taxes again in MY on incomes taxed in SG will be a violation of the double taxation agreement...

As an example, yesterday I was talking to a business unit CEO of 1 of the biggest retailers in SG, and he was so dismissive of the online threat that I found it shocking. Naturally I didnt tell him that I had just bought my TV from Lazada the day before (after comparing prices of Courts...

Fast forward to today, and one is growing its economy at 1% and the other at 4% per annum. The easy days of population ponzi are gone forever but sadly, many Singaporeans still dont realise it.

Similar to Cyberjaya, the local Johoreans/SPR wont be choosing the greenfield developments as their choice of neighbourhood. That's why Bukit Indah houses can sell out so quickly.

SG's problems are that the world is fast changing, we have a small domestic market, and the general population is complacent and sticks to tried-and-tested solutions, which are often not so relevant in today's world.

There will always be people who think differently. For example, our family friend - a Datuk Seri, lives in Horizon Hill bungalow, but his kids make the daily commute to SG to study. He has recently expanded his operations to SG too, but would he stay in SG (despite that he had worked in SG...

We are entering into a new era in SE Asia, where countries will side more towards/against China and US. The Philippines will always be a natural ally for US, just like MY is a natural ally of China. Even the China press said as much about having no illusions about the Philippines.
