Not really true. I wanted to buy a "big house" a few years ago, and that was before the thought of moving to Johor even crossed my mind. Jumbo flat is more than $700K, and still asking COV of $100K on top of that. Affordable? Hardly. Unless both parents also work and earn at least $6000 each...

In my opinion, generally Malaysians are tough and resilient people and survival instincts are good. Compared to Singaporeans who nowadays are pampered by our govt, not many are able to weather the storms of life, especially when some basic things like housing can be expensive.

Well, I would pay $800 a month if I buy a JB condo and at the end of the day I own it and can get something back when I sell it. Rental maybe I pay monhly $600-$700 but it is money down the drain. When I old, then decide when that time comes. I dont need top notch medical suites, just adequte...

If I have $300K in my bank, that would not be enough to buy a 3 bedroom condo in SG which is $1.4m. The monthly payment would be enough to make me sweat blood. Rather, I would buy a nice location fully furnished JB condo at around RM600K-RM700K which I like very much, take up a bank loan at 80%...

Yah...I think that is more for tax purposes...applicable for expatriates or for those who work short periods in Malaysia and earning income in Malaysia. I think technically, or is it legally speaking, there is probably no issue with Singaporeans living in JB by ensuring that they do not...

So more the case that now, if you are lucky you get to make 6 digit profit from sales of HDB...otherwise don't hope too much?
