He is not that independent, his master dictates and decides how, where and when his position will be for the election. If what he said is true about his own merit, he insulted 99% of those who coattailed into GRC after losing an SMC like Desmond Choo, Ong Ye Kun and Denis Phua and those who rode into Istana without public mandate.

Singapore’s GDP growth forecast for 2025 has been downgraded to 0% to 2% from the previous range of 1% to 3%. The Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) made the announcement on Monday (14 April) as Singapore braces for the impact of US President Donald Trump's global tariff war. Data released today showed Singapore’s economy grew 3.8% year-on-year in the first quarter, compared with expectations for a 4.5% increase. Singapore’s central bank – also announced on Monday – has eased its monetary policy settings further. “There will be no change to the width of the band and the level at which it is centred,” said the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS).

Singapore on Monday eased its monetary policy for the second straight time, as the city-state posted a lower-than-expected GDP growth of 3.8% for the first quarter, according to advance estimates.

The Monetary Authority of Singapore had eased its policy stance in its January meeting too, loosening policy for the first time since 2020.
 
If he is a minister material he should anchor a GRC team and fight again rather than hiding under LHL disguised SMC
