Singapore Drivers. What kind of attitude do you carry while driving on our roads?

I can separate the two main kinds. Those who drive to their destinations and those who"take a drive" to their destination.

The raison d’être of a COE policy is that one pays for the occupation of road space that allows a reasonable speed of travel. Fair enough. But allowing arrogant or plain stupid drivers to deprive others of that is just ridiculous even though they had paid for their COES!

How many times had you came across a situation of a slowdown in a three lane because a commercial vehicle is on the extreme left lane, a female drive in the middle and a motherfucker who just overtook only to drive on the extreme right lane at the same speed.

Are drivers aware of the fact that vehicle speedometers are optimistic by an average of 10%? That means when your speedometer indicates 100 km/ph, your actual speed is 90 kmph?

And the Traffic Police had acknowledged that they allow an extra 10kmph for overtaking. That translates to driving at 100kmph which in turn means a speedometer indication of 110kmph to overtake but to slow down back to the legal speed of 90 kmph once that is achieved. And yes back to the inner lane of course!

You followed a creeping vehicle when the light turns green or braked to avoid a collision because it suddenly slows down when you were charging in from behind?

Pass the vehicle and you will see the driver scrolling down his Iphone4!

If you want to test a man's character, put him in a position of power.

If you want to test a man's temperament, put him behind the wheel.

Very true. I've met male drivers with the Mother Teresa syndrome. You know those who let 20 other cars change lanes until being horn fucked by those behind in a traffic jam caused by an accident? Where's the giving of way by the merging principle?

Then you had always been lucky. How about those that keeep pace with you, thus preventing you from turning unless you brake?

Many SG drivers are inconsiderate. Have seen good drivers but they are the exceptions. The expensive COE probably makes them think they own the roads.

After driving in LOS for some time, most of my bad driving habits gone. Now, I don't really rush to get from one location to another. If someone wants to cut into my lane, I just slow down and let him/her do that. In LOS/MY, there are many junctions without traffic lights but it will still work because most drivers are considerate and will give way when required. Doubt it will work in SG.

Pai say to say, Pattaya drivers also becoming like SG drivers/riders.

Can someone tell if it's legal for a vehicle to crawl along at 50 kmph on the expressways? I not talking about 36 wheel monsters.

Agreed, many times, i just let them merge into the centre lane to avoid an accident. Yesterday there was one such case where a goods vehicle last minute cut into my lane, forcing me to slam on the brakes and pressed my horn for the first time this year. I will only press the horn in emergencies and press it like once a year kind of thing as i normally don't press it even for deserving people. This guy, driving a GY239D vehicle (hope i got the number right as left the car plate no. in my car) slashed into my path forcing me to horn. Then he highbeamed me continuously when i passed him. I highbeamed him back and then continued my way, he highbeamed me many times. Slowed down to the side and took down his license number. Driving 70kmph and on the extreme right lane for most of the way until others highbeamed him. Our goods vehicles are very very cocky these days.

People are just not aware of the power they hold in their hands in the form of a smart phone. It would be much better if you have a passenger on board to film the offence and email it to the Traffic Police with the declaration of the willingness to attend court as a witness.

If the Traffic Police decline to act on your report, put it here.

I think it's more about drivers from the small vs big city. When I lived in a small town people were more courteous & relaxed. They would give way to pedestrians & other cars. Then I returned to Spore & driving became unpleasant & stressful :(

We see plenty of traffic light in Spore, many don't realise the cost of each of these traffic lights:eek: In small towns across Canada they avoid unecessary lights to save $ & instead rely instead on drivers common sense , but in Spore I don't think that will work:biggrin:

I have not driven on Malaysia Roads for a long time. I remember the big transport trailers indicating right signal lights to discourage you from overtaking because from their vantage view, they could see oncoming vehicles way ahead and they don't want you to drive up the Stairway to Heaven. Here in Tampines Road from Tampines Ave 10 towards Hougang, they will indicate left to let you pass into oncoming traffic. Wonder how NTUC vouchers they get when an accident occurs........

Talking about stress, what is like for taxi drivers on the roads 12 hours a day?

The few minutes saving in time for the extra 20-30km/hr not worth it. Might as well, enjoy the music and have a safe journey. Only time I get a little impatient is when looking for a toilet.

It's really stressful to drive a car/ride a bike in BKK and it's the main reason I avoid driving into BKK. The jams are notorious and long. Luckily, most LOS drivers/riders are quite 'automatic' when it comes to giving way. Already bad, no point making it worst.

On the other hand, one of the worst driving habits of both locals and foreigners can be found in Pattaya which is just a small district in Chonburi.
One thing for sure is majority of Pattaya residents (Thais and foreigners) are not original natives of Pattaya. Think everyone bring their bad driving habits into Pattaya. Even myself is guilty of occasionally not wearing helmet, using handphone while riding and going against the traffic direction.

It's still practice in LOS. And most of the vehicle from the opposite direction will flash their high beams a few time quickly to warn you there are traffic police in front.

How true it is. I'm driving/riding on JB roads almost daily and I encounter less instances of inconsiderate drivers than in Sinkie Land. Although I must admit that there are still those Ah Bengs in JB driving AUDIs, Alphards and bigger cars acting similarly like their Sinkie counterpart. However, their express bus drivers are the biggest bastards.

please only take picture if there a passenger or pillion. i ever witness two idiots on the road where both try to film each other with their handphone. it was on aye/ecp toward changi, just before marina sands. at first i notice on my rearview mirror a bikee using his phone, my first thought he smsing, then i notice the bikee and a car is over taking each other many time. i kept to the left lane while both of them rush past me and i can see both were trying to film each other with their handphone. so both were riding/driving with only one hand, film each other at over 80km/h with only one eye on the road.

please dont always sound as if commerical drivers are unreasonable drivers. personally i give more leeway to ppl who have to earn a living on the road. i can be patient to taxi/truck/van/container driver. maybe because i also drive my company van sometime so i a bit understand the problem commercial driver faced.

but the only ppl i no patient are those ppl who drive expensive car who treat the road belong to their ah gong and also those indecsive women drivers.
just because drive a sport car mean no need to quene. i wait in line to go up the viaduct to ecp, drive a sport car then want to eat my lane. so i drove the van closer to him and keep my front ahead of him to force him to the wall of the viaduct even though i have plenty of space on the other side. one he back off, then i drive at the centre at 20km/h just to piss him off. he highbeam i also cannot see as headlights too low. i only do to drivers who deserved the treatment. for me, as long the other driver put signal light and raise his hand to signal, most of the time i will give way. and i find most male drivers, especially the commerical vehicle drivers will raise his hand as appreciation but i NEVER ever see a woman driver signal a thank you for giving way to her. so as rule of thumb, i seldom give way to woman drivers.

btw, just because you signal do not mean u have right of way, the other driver can boh chap u. so most of the time i switch lane early to avoid missing the turn or exit.

to blame road user behaviour on COE is a bit extreme, i personally think it from the driver upbringing and lack of moral education that cause the society to behave in this way.
