Today's SATURDAY features gamblers,punters and patrons to both RWS and MBS.

I think it's a very good write-up on the cross-section of the people who patronised the two Casinos .You think they are IRSs ?

Some stories are sad especially the young ones who have lost a fortune and even lost the credit and money borrowed. The retirees who have lost their savings. The housewives who have lost their allowances. The elderly and terminally ill who have lost their purpose in life and glued to the tables and to the one-armed bandits who drained them dry.

The compulsive gambler who could not pull himself out of the misery...keeps returning and keeps losing more and more....The foreign workers who lost their monthly wages....The workers who stole to gamble away....The social misfits, the introverts and the sick who sought solace and comfort in the slots ....

Social life is forgotten.Family life is forgotten. The only thing worth living is the return to the gambling den. An addiction that brings grief and anguish to the family and to their loved ones.

Are the Casinos to be blamed? Or is it a defect of the person's character that accounts for all the sad stories. Kindly share your experiences here...

Very sad indeed....how many of us here fall into the categories ? How many of us here are "social and entertaining" punters? How many of us here are "professional gamblers" ? How many of us here are "compulsive gamblers"?

The 2 IRs cannot be abolished.The purposes of the 2 IRs are to provide jobs for more FTs and also provide revenue for the MIW salaries and bonuses.

Yes, I read about the articles on Sat ST paper D section on the gambling issues!! Yup, this is indeed sad!!
We have no choice but to admit that the 2 IRs have firmly stamped their roots in our lands already!! Social probelms is bound to be happen or had already been surface till date!
I believed many folks here could have already suffered tons of debts and losses due to the 2 convinience IRs entry here since early this year!It's definitely sad to hear or know someone whom are related to us or friends around us being affected or even hurt/down from gambling issues!
I personally do not think that there is anything much we can do or help!! It's far beyond of control!! "Convinience" entry have already happen!Do you think it helps even thot these folks appy for their self excusion today?? I have seen people or family went ahead to file for these so call exclusion! What happen next?? Family issues created, hatred,arguement!! And yet, they are still able to go on board to gambling cruise casino or Genting!! There is no way to bar anyone who is addicted or lost their mind already!! What people have lost is not only money but themselves!!
They will not be able to think straight after lossing these tons of money which they cant afford!
My question here is how many folks who stepped into any casino can really afford to lose money? How many folks there are really there to seek for entertainment purpose?How many folks will be able to stick to discipline and control themselves within a certain budget which set in their mind?
When winning yes, many people might be able to control..vice versa when lossing!!!!!What happen???
There are already so many geniune cases happening even before our 2 IRs here operates!
The conclusion is to close this 2 IRs will not happen is any short tem UNLESS something really drastic happen which I cannot think of any now!! Yes, we can see or feel sorry to people whom have lost themselves in the Casino but it's still only a small percentage to those rulers!!See it??
Sad!! I have stopped myself from going into these 2 IRs since 3 weeks back except for the last 2 days for the lucky draw! I did not even place a single bet! I am controlling myself and I hope I can pull a stop from Casino gambling soon!!

To those folks who can stop please stop unless you really can apply discipline to yourself!! I believed the % who can really do it is less then 2% if not, many casino could have closed down!!

I fully agree with you. I was also warned by my friends NOT to step into the casino. So far my friends from overseas are here and I'm taking care of them - but not entering the casino.Missing out on the lucky draws also....But it's okay really.

So far, I think I'm quite okay...with no major losses or great wins.Just up and down and no big games or disasters. But the stories I've read about gamblers in deep shit are so real that they really frighten me. I've seen so many gamblers go zombie and I even helped one lady who fell down because she felt giddy - gambling the whole night without sleep.And they are Singaporeans - the typical housewives with so much cash!!!

I agree.With the two IRs at our door-steps, social problems will escalate and gambling related problems will rise. Suicide is one.Depression is another.Broken families will soon follow. We have one big DEMON waiting to entice us always and to consume us totally.

These are early days yet. Most studies suggest that we need a full 2 years for the social problems to fully develop and manifest.

The "pioneer batch" which includes a majority of hardcore gamblers (myself , aunties, uncles), KTV/niteclubs mummies and their hostess, first few groups of overseas whales that lose a substantial amount to both casinos. Most lose mainly due to the 24 hrs levy, must die die make full use of this levy to recuperate, but lose even further. Those semi-pros also see red, but thanks to their effective bankroll management, they can re-adjust themselves to adopt a stop-loss strategy.

Now the next wave who enter into casinos should be the influx of CBD OLs, high net worth group, the cash-rich eldery folks who have alot of ample time to spend and the get rich-due-to-inheritance group.

Going for TOWER is called "casino sky diving".

As a sign of the magnitude of the problem, a good proxy variable to observe are the "personal loan" ads in msm papers like New Paper. Pre-casino, there were only abt half a page of ads. These days 3 to 4 pages is the norm.

Also around the HDB heartlands, pawn shops are now the new growth industry. Most heartlands have seen the number of pawnshops increase by 100% to 200%.

Majority won't even see because they have to pay $100. So most of Singaporeans are safe and will benefit from the good the IRs do for the economy.

I have asked quite a number of my friends, do they go to the casinos to play. Most of them said no. Reason is they don't like to gamble. So a casino doesn't attract them. Another 1 who doesn't like to gamble said he went once just to see how different it is from casinos which he visited in other countries. He said gambling doesn't attract him too.

I though I have strong will power and discipline. I know how the casino works and how it earn its huge profits. I know the casino is not for the weak minded. We are all humans and we have weaknesses. It just takes a moment of human weakness to finish you off in the casino even if you were strong for the past few months or weeks.

I aim to make 1k a day at the casino when I started. For a cool 25 days I was really making 1k a day and up to 25k total. I brought in 2k. I played only baccarat and sic bo. I paid the levy and went in and once I made my "pay" which was 1k I will leave. I though I have strong willpower and discipline but who knows a moment of human weakness is all it takes to kill me. During the duration of 25 days at MBS, they gave me membership after 2 weeks and all that cause I was there everyday.

Sometimes I made my 1k in 1 hr, the fastest record time i did was in 10 mins. I walked in i saw a baccarat table and it opened player 4 times I had a hunch it will open player again so I placed 1k and I made 1k and then I went to cage and cash it out ignoring all the other tables. I though I have a system going in my mind already or this was what I think.

Fast forward 25 days I made 25k and I took 5 days rest to enjoy with my gf. I returned to the casino after the 5 days and this time I was suddenly up 3k with my initial 2k capital that I was bring. A moment of human weakness took over me and i went berserk. In baccarat and in 15 mins i lost 5k. I went nuts and i drove home took all my winnings out from my drawer and went back. In 1 hour i lost 25k.

Went home took a shower and rest. Didn't tell my gf what happened. Couldn't sleep kept thinking of all the $ i wasted and why was I so foolish didn't follow my initial plan as always. Next morning come 8am took a shower, went to bank withdraw 30k and in my mind to recoup. Reached casino at 9am, sat down at baccarat table. Followed this uncle who seems to be lucky streak with 100k worth of 5k chips on his table. When 1015am was already up 41k. Look at the watch thinking to play till 1030, cash out my winnings and go to work at 11am. This time i should already stand up, take back my card and cash out at the cage but I didn't do so cause I feel i can at least kill back the casino now and ride on the uncle and my luck.

Placed the next game 5k, lose, 10k, lose .. for the next 2 games all lose. Down to my last 14k. Last ditch attempt hammered again 10k lose. Uncle still got chips on table he was like 5k 10k a hand like me but I was gone. Asked for my card back, took the 4k chips in hand and was in a daze. Walked pass a sic bo table, placed last 4k on it for big, opened 145 small. I finally woke up after losing all my chips. Walked out of casino back into my car loss for words and went abit crazy. Called gf told her and got a big scolding. From then on I told myself, the money u win is invaluable to you but the money you lose is extra painful. And in the long run, you cannot escape the law of statistics and the house always win.

when you are in the casino, please be careful of punters who bet heavy...some of them are CASINO PLANTS who are professionally paid to entice punters to follow him and bet heavily...please be careful..

it's well know, casinos do engage 'PLANTS' to tempt gamblers to place bigger and bigger bets....be very careful.....the CASINO is there TO WIN... and not to give you money...so be very careful!!!

esp those with plenty of cash chips and "high rollers" in the common gaming halls - both men and women can be 'PLANTS'.....

Regular casino goers are:
1. People ending their lives soon;
2. People parting with entire fortune soon;
3. People prostituting themselves;
4. Loansharks;
5. Money launderers;
6. Silly tourists.

As one can see, only cat 5 n 6 casino regulars are ok. All others are fucked big time.
