The Quran promises Virgins, whereas the hadiths say 72 Virgins. What's the difference?

Whereas, at least certain hadiths give details with the notion of the famous "72 virgins". Which would you prefer?

The hadiths were compiled about 250 years after the uthman version quran was published. So the hadith supercedes or even completes the missing details in the qurans.

The Koran gives muslim soldiers permission to behead 'attacking' side in the name of 'defence', meaning when the opponent side countered a muslim attack, the muslim soldiers can behead them in 'self-defence'.
