Once again, the head honchos at ST have egg on their face. Of course, all this is covered up by the prostitute press, aka the Shit Times. In what is going to be one of the largest orders in recent history (the US Army has to replace several thousand Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicles), worth billions of $, ST is a no show in this contest. ST and SAIC partnered to offer a version of the Terrex to the USMC for their recent amphibious combat vehicle, and made it to the finals of the competition before losing.
SAIC is a american company with a lot of experiencing modify and upgrading armoured vehicles for the US army, and other branches. But no experience actually building them. So they thought they would have a winning combination with ST. ST will offer the actual vehicles for the competitions and the SAIC will modify them and enter them into the various competition. Cost and profit sharing is worked out in this JV. The first partnership venture was the contest for the USMC amphibious combat vehicle. The Terrex was offered, and being a mature design progress fairly well, becoming one of the 2 finalist. But then, the HKG govt confiscated the vehicles and now the chinese know everything there is to know about that design.
In the case of the Bradley replacement competition, ST could only offer the Hunter AFV. being a new design, SAIC must have looked it over good and come to the same conclusion that I have. Its a piece of shit. It stands no chance in the competition against General Dynamics and Rheinmetall. Coupled with the change of CEOs in SAIC, SAIC decided not to bid on this competition at all. They will also in future do no more JV with ST on any other bids. SAIC provided no warning to ST, and ST now has no chance and no time to look for a replacement JV partner with the same type of working arrangement. Hence, they are shit out of luck in potentially the biggest armour competition in years.
