From Wiki:

A flash mob (or flashmob) is a group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, perform an unusual and seemingly pointless act for a brief time, then quickly disperse, often for the purposes of entertainment, satire, and artistic expression. Flash mobs are organized via telecommunications, social media, or viral emails.

Spot on, they are caught pants down, the commotion started around 8+pm and you don't need to be Sherlock Homes to figure out things are going to turn shitty from there on. SOC was not activated till 11pm.
Restrain?? If SOC was there at 9pm, things would have turn out differently.

I think it is a joke that tear gas or water canon was not used.
I bet they were totally unprepared for it rather than "showing restrain"

Agree. Delay was probably a result of tai-chi at the lower level. By the time it was decided that SOC and GC be activated, ground situation completely out of control. Always the case, as oldtimers will tell you.

There is hardly any police presence at Little India even though Rochor NPC is just a nearby.. The clever Govt outsourced all crowd control duties at Serangoon to Certis Cisco..

Every night you would see these yaya Malaysian Kelings from Cisco walking up and down the streets of Little India doing patrols, doing checks on the drunkards, and issuing saman to the litter bugs..

IMHO, the initial assessment was perhaps flawed and they did not expect such a mammoth mob that went rampaging mad. By the time things were taken seriously and activated, the whole riot went insane. It was impossible to control unless you really want to call in the military! So it was allowed to burn itself out.I hope we do learn from this....

That road junction is a very tight area. I used to enjoy the Apollo Fish Head curry there and there were many buses parked there. It is a dead end for any vehicle to go there. And the mob was massive and the scene was over-whelming...It is like driving into a trap with no escape routes!!! In such a situation, it is better not to use force on anyone or even think of using your firearms. It will just trigger off a worse scenario.

From this incident, it clearly shows that our Sillypore riot police can't even match those Thailand riot police or even Malaysia riot police at all.
Thailand riot police are very well trained and experience in handling these kind of real riot situation all these years.
But our Sillypore riot police is only good in carrying out exercises and simulation during peaceful time.
I doubt if the riot happens in a much larger scale, all poodles will shit in their pants.

How you compare??? By looking at it??? Sg police stop the riot in 2 hours... Thailand they are on going for days, months or years???

Or you mean yesterday riot are small scale??? Than we will compare when we have larger scale...

saw the video with scdf trying to extricate body under the bus followed by arrival of ambulance. crowd around accident scene was the typical massive crowd you would expect in little india on a weekend night. the crowd was curious and started swelling to unmanageable numbers. instead of protecting body recovery personnel (scdf and paramedics) doing their job, spf lost crowd control without adeqate personnel and backup. driver of bus should have been taken into custody quickly into police car and driven off to diffuse anger, but the tipping point happened when crowd went after driver. it was a lynch mob, and the police on scene missed the cues, was indecisive and had zero initiatives in nipping the potential problem in the bud, thus preventing the unfortunate chain of events. sam is right. the corporal or sergeant first on the scene assessed the situation poorly, and the rest was history.

I think we should give credit to our security forces for their great restraint and the whole fiasco burnt itself out in double quick time with no loss of lives at all!!! Last night mob was not a small one. It was a mammoth riot . But our security forces did well with their cool, calm and collected restraint. Action will soon follow, I am pretty sure about this.

Aiyo..simple

Run SAF style workers dorm with barbed wires and sentry guards.

Workers wear uniform T shirts to book out...telling that they are FTs...

Issue dog tags ids to Indian n Bangalas...

2259 hrs curfew....for Sat n Sun notes out.

Roll call see who is not back (trouble makers). Report to MPs who will conduct check on any Indian seen loiteering around...

Break curfew 3 times send back to India.

Employ former SAF officers to tekan them.

Riots start with a small scale and grows bigger.
You already saw for yourself that small scale riot our poodles already cannot handle.
Our poodles didn't stop the riot, it eventually burnt out by itself.

When it comes to a bigger scale, all our poodles will run road already.

Talk is always easy... I would say if anyone of you here is the 1st police officer to attend to this incident, I believe everyone will be frighten... Very frighten... All of you are talking like you can handle hundreds of rioter by typing at keyboard... You guys are human being... But those police which help to maintain laws and orders are dust??

The way you are saying is like if you are there last night, this riots will not happen???

Modern riot squads don't use firearms. They use tear gas and water cannons to disperse crowds.

On the other hand our policemen were the first to flee the scene, leaving the ambulance medics/driver and firemen to fend for themselves.

Poodles will be poodles.

Ahh yes the police cars that got flash lights on and flipped over were all empty indeed...only the fire engine got people inside and so reversed to escape...

Are you trying to say civilians should take up the responsibility to handle rioters? Civilians not afraid then policemen not afraid? The same for army during war too? Must be a scenario of no one is afraid then can fight?!
