ang mo expats and bargaining

for the last week, i was looking after a furniture shop in Dempsey while the owner was on holiday

an ang mo couple came in and was interested in a piece that was listed at $2600

as usual, bargain

my instructions as to pricing were quite precise from the owner and i said i could sell it to them for $2350

the wife also picked up 3 small items at $25 each


after giving them the $2350 figure, the husband offered $1800

i said sorry cant sell at that price

kept trying

then he had the audacity to ask me " what's your margin" ?

WTF is that to him?
finally i said last price $2300 (after smsing the owner)
then try again : he would pay $2300 if i gave him the 3 small pieces (total $75) for free.....

Last time there used to be more well off angmos. Back then they wouldn't quibble because the company was providing a generous allowance.
