SingPost must be one of the few national postal services anywhere that not merely continues to make profits, but very hefty profits. They've introduced a number of ways to boost profits at the expense of the public. Canceling Saturday deliveries is one of them. Doing away with the low postal rate for PRINTED MATTER is another. Now, all items are weighed at one same rate irrespective of whether they contain paper, metal or ceramic. When I recently wanted to send via airmail a book to the US, I was told that the cost of airmailing it would actually be more than the price of the book. I scrapped the idea.

Lots of Sporeans must have looked into starting a home based internet bizniss like ebay. Spore would have been an ideal location for importing & selling products from this region.

Unfortunately the high costs have killed such dreams.

Few month back me I fetched my wife from the Coffee Bean outlet at Singpost HQ at Eunos.. She was having some coffee over there with her ex classmates.. While I was there, I took the opportunity to pay my Bills at the main counter inside the Singpost building at level 1..

After paying my bills, I saw a fair looking Indian lady from Singpost eagerly approaching the customers in the queue and pestering them there to check their Medishield account status and telling them of certain benefits of ugrading their Medishields.. She then insisted on bringing them to a nearby table where few Insurance chaps were stationed so that these customers can check on their Medishield status.. She was quite pesky and iritating..

No customers in the queue entertained her requests.. She then approached me and I told her off curtly..

Bloody Scums always wanting to leech money and more money from Sinkies..

Thanks Zeddy.

My neighbour just got discharged from the hospital. Her bill was $2400....She showed me a letter from IncomeShield and she cried!!! She said she has been paying premiums for so many years and yet IncomeShield wrote and told her that she would not be reimbursed at all. IncomeShield had raised the DEDUCTIBLES to $3,000!!!! She asked me to complain and write to the government.

Last time the deductible was $2000. Now $3000. In future, maybe $5000!!!! What the heck paying so much premium yearly !!! And not forgetting the Co-Payment as well!!!

Do all these medical / hospital schemes really have a heart for those who insured with them??? Any insurance expert here to enlighten old uncle ? Thank you.

Can't you just pick it up at the local postoffice?

Yes & No!, it's used to be YES!, small packages are routed to the nearest post office near you, but heavier or bigger ones are brought back to SINkpost HQ near to Paya Lebar MRT Station. That's where the fun begins. I have a lot of Priority packages from the States, some years back, if I am not at home, they are routed to the nearest P.O. & I just go there & collect them, as stated on the delivery card left at the door. Sometime ago, SINkpost changed that. They just leave the delivery card at the door, with no indication of what you are suppose to do, but there is a number printed on it. You call that number, it is an excercise in frustration, but it does say, your package is at the HQ.

So,you happily 'waltz' over to the SINpost HQ, go to the counter that says collect packages etc.. The counter staff ask " did you call to make arrangement?", you: "huh"? staff: " you have to call that number to make arrangement", you: " I did, but I could not find the option that, tell me where to collect the package"? staff: "you have to call, if not you have to wait one to two hours, for the staff to locate your package from upstairs" "can you wait", " if you can't, we locate that package, you can come back later or tomorrow". You : WTF StINkpost!"

In the past it was simple, you missed the door delivery, you take the delivery notice to the nearest P.O. stated on the card next working day, you collect the package. There is no point of getting your sender to indicate a number to call you, when the package arrived in SINgapore, they just don't bother to call either!.

We have a first world POST OFFICE, selling electronics gadgets, mobile phones, confectionery, bonbon, biscuits, chicken of essence, moon cakes..no CONDOMS yet!, but their parcel delivery has gone from 1st world standard to worst than 3rd world standard.

I was surprised that Malaysia POS had improved tremendously, I usually don't trust their postal service, but nowadays, ordinary letter are received correctly, registered article & even packages, when I sent over. In the past, we usually pray that they arrive. But in SINgapore, they do arrive, but you have to pray, to know where your package is at the moment! :p

The postman visits my building 5 times a week. So whats the big deal about bringing those packages the next time he visits:confused:

You just too self fish.
When item not received they will immediate issue notice for self collection. That standard procedure.
Notice already given so the item need to pass to collection center.
Collection center will handle the item.
If every postman do it their way many item will be lost and can not be trace.

That Indian lady from Singpost was manning one of the payment counters when she came out her counter to approach the customers queuing up to pay their bills.. It was very unprofessional of her to leave her duty point and harass these customers whose main purpose there was only to pay their bills..

These are all low life bloodsuckers.. Opportunistic scumbags.. Part of the Govt's con schemes to leech more money from the citizens..

I got no issue with these people getting the contracts but some of them really do a fucked up poor job.. The Auntie delivering mails at my neighbourhood obtained a contract for more than 10 blocks.. Its just too much for her to handle more than 10 blocks but she's fuckin greedy.. Due to her greediness, at times I also received late delivery of my mails..

I suspect we might be neighbours in the same estate.

Mine is also sub con to a fucking greedy auntie, who spends more time listening to her laylio then sorting mails.

If they charge you shipping fees but is shipping from sink, then leave them a truthful review.

One idiot seller tried to complain that the feedback i left him was unfair until i pointed out that the tracking info showed the item was shipped in sink but it still took 8 days, he LLST.

What do you mean selfish:confused:

Other "delivery" companies know that Sporeans are busy people & have made arrangements to do re-deliveries. Some also come in the evening. It's all part of the delivery business:rolleyes:

If Singpost is not interested in doing so, they shouldn't even be in the business.

Lots of people in Spore aren't at home in the afternoon. Now they will all have to go to the post office before 5pm to pick their parcels & registered mail.

Our post offices are already busy with people paying bills, fines, picking up passports, getting loans, doing remittances, buying barang barang,..... Don't you think Singpost should be focusing on their delivery business instead:confused:

What I see is that GLCs have been allowed to go into all types of businesses & neglecting their core responsibilities. Still remember SBS getting into property development:eek: Who can ignore the SMRT breakdowns? It was caused because the CEO was focusing on their retail business & neglecting the transport bizness:rolleyes:

We 'lesser mortals' always end up paying for it directly or indirectly:(

I have been to the main post office in JB & it was a pleasant experience because there wasn't any long queues
They actually had different queues for different services.

When I was trying to call Singpost to arrange for a re-delievery I tried to contact 1605:biggrin: Good luck to anyone who tries to call that number. After going through the maze of options you will eventually be cut off:mad: It's always challenging to get through to a life person at Singpost. Last time I got through to someone in the Philippines:eek: This time I simply called their HQ.

I often use iHerb's cheapest delivery option, delivery by POST. I found out that iHerb will use DHL to bulk ship all the small orders to Spore. Once it reaches Spore, these small orders broken up then sent by Singpost to addresses in Spore.

Maybe that is what dx.com is doing to save on shipping costs:confused:

Pick up we know, the trouble with Sin post that their web site is not updated, when your shipment arrive you need to call them it not indicated in their web and check with them when they will send to us and someone must be around if not they will ask you to self collect. Thier service is like shit and the price we pay for is better to send via DHL of fedex. tier web is update till it will indicate when they will send to you. SINPOST SUCK AND LIKE SHIT

Precisely. Just when the Internet has made it viable for people to engage in online businesses SingPost has gone the reverse direction by making it prohibitive to do so. Because of its large branch network, SingPost has taken on the function as largely a bill payment centre for an increasing number of large organisations. moving away from its original postal service role.

Trying to sell things through ebay is now very difficult. Postage is taking up the bulk of the cost. Buyers are interested in the items but are put off by the shipping costs.

I wouldn't sing too much praises about the GPO in Johor Baru, have used that P.O. for years, but they have improved a lot & you will be getting services just like the old Post Offices of old in SINgapore. I have make it a point to use their Post Offices, where ever I go in Malaysia from JB to Cameron Highlands, & even out of SINgapore. I go to send a postcard to myself, so that I remember where I have been.

1605..like talking to yourself & going down to the P.O. doesn't help either these days, the counter staff knows little about things postal, they are much more interested in selling you insurance, bonbons, biscuits etc...and soon maybe CONDOMS!. They maybe asking what size!

Doing away with PRINTED MATTER is not unique to us, U.S.P.S. & ROYAL MAIL of UK had done that, years back. Now you can see why Borders & those book stores found it hard to survive. In the past, we can roll up the newspapers or wrap with an outer protective water proof paper & send the newspaper by PRINTED MATTER, & it was economical, never mind if it reaches there & it will be the next year! ( ha ha ha) or a book or anything that is in print. You are right, the cost of airmail to send a paperback cost more than the paperback. Nowadays, you might as well buy on-line & ship it to wherever the person is at the moment.

The post office is now a retail shop...they sell almost everything, soon, from kitchen sinks to condoms!... ha ha ha, I would love to see them marketing Durex fetherlight or Okamoto 0.2 , ha ha ha, Sir!, this one very thin, very light, feel like real skin... ha ha ha

The PAP is killing the biznesses in Spore. All the increases are just making it more attractive to shop elsewhere.

If I need supplements I get them from the US from www.iHerb.com. They have a fantastic range of products & are cheaper. Now that they are offering free shipping the cost saving are even better.

With Amazon and borderlinx I can get anything & don't need to shop in Spore. The only things I buy locally is food.

I heard that people are going to Bangkok with empty suitcases & return with these suitcases packed with clothing, cosmetics, etc. You can see the impact with shops closing & some places are really empty e.g Shaw Cenre st Scotts Rd

I buy from iherb too, one bottle of vitamin c in sg, can buy at least 2 bottles, more varieties and u get some charge back. I also do not want to buy from NTUC or GNC and let those chee bye companies who employ chao pinoys earn my money.
