The group asserts that Afghanistan under Taliban control is “the most dangerous and insecure place in the world for Afghan girls and women.”
In a resolution issued on Thursday, March 7th the Women’s Freedom Movement highlighted the hardships faced by women under Taliban rule, stating that women face “arbitrary arrests, torture, mass rape, and killings” in their fight for rights.
The resolution states that Afghan women have been taken hostage by the Taliban.
These women protesters have cited over 85 decrees issued since the Taliban’s takeover, banning or restricting rights to education, employment, freedom of travel, freedom of speech, cultural activities, sports, and public services.
According to the group, the Taliban’s policies are not in line with the desires, culture, and religion of the Afghan people.
In addition to the dire situation highlighted by the Women’s Freedom Movement, the economic plight of Afghan women worsens amid returning refugees from neighboring countries, exacerbating the crisis.
The harsh policies implemented by the Taliban further exacerbate the situation, pushing Afghan women deeper into poverty and despair.
