Woman jailed for group assault on Frenchman and taking Ice

SINGAPORE: A 20-year-old woman was on Monday jailed 22 months by a district court for being part of a savage attack on a French national and for taking drugs.

Nur Azilah Ithnin admitted to the offences earlier this month.

According to investigations, Azilah -- a student at the Institute of Technical Education at the time -- attacked 53-year-old product line manager Dominguez Didier Moise at his Marina Bay residence in March this year.

She became involved with the victim through a close friend, Nuurul Aliyyah Abdul Talib, who was working as a prostitute for Malcolm Graham Head and his girlfriend Veronica Patricia Rio.

Both Head and Rio allegedly ran an online vice ring, the second to surface since the high-profile online vice ring involving 51 men broke last year.

The court heard that on March 3, Aliyyah was to have provided sexual services to Mr Dominguez for S$280.

Worried for Aliyyah's safety, Azilah and three accomplices accompanied her to the appointment in case she needed help.

After a misunderstanding broke out between Aliyyah and Mr Dominguez over the type of sexual services that would be rendered, Aliyyah called her accomplices for help.

The group, made up of Azilah, Head, Rio and Aliyyah's brother Ahmad Habiibul Hakim Assalafi, showed up at the apartment and assaulted Mr Dominguez, punching and kicking him.

They also hit his forehead thrice with a wine bottle opener.

The entire attack left him with facial fractures.

Azilah admitted to kicking Mr Dominguez twice on his body, and holding on to a knife in Mr Dominguez's home.

She also pleaded guilty to one charge of taking the drug Ice.

For voluntarily causing grievous hurt, Azilah could have been jailed 10 years and fined.

She was part of a group that beat up a French expatriate after he asked her best friend - a prostitute - for anal sex.

For voluntarily causing grievous hurt to Mr Didier Moise Dominguez and taking the drug Ice, Nur Azilah Ithnin, 20, was jailed for 22 months on Monday.

A third charge of stealing $1,920 worth of items from Mr Dominguez's apartment at Marina Bay Residences was taken into consideration during sentencing.

The court was told the cases involving her four alleged accomplices, Veronica Patricia Rio, 19; Ahmad Habiibul Hakim Assalafi, 19; his sister,Nuurul Aliyyah Abdul Talib, 23, and Malcolm Graham Head, 33, are pending.

Mr Dominguez, a product line manager, had seen an online advertisement on March 3 for a prostitute whose services included "anal service".

When he called the number, he spoke to Rio, who allegedly ran a vice business with her boyfriend, Head.

Nuurul Aliyyah, the prostitute, went to the Frenchman's home just past midnight with Nur Azilah and the three other accused in separate taxis.

When she went up to his apartment, the others waited nearby. Mr Dominguez found out that she had not agreed to anal sex after talking to her.

When she called her alleged accomplices for help, they turned up later and assaulted Mr Dominguez.

They punched, kicked and stamped on him before fleeing to Park Hotel near Clarke Quay.

The police, acting on information, arrested the group in an ambush at Arab Street the next day.

After her arrest, Nur Azilah's urine samples were found to contain traces of Ice.

She admitted to taking the drug with Nuurul Aliyyah in a room at the hotel on March 3.

For voluntarily causing grievous hurt, she could have been jailed up to 10 years and fined.

For consuming Ice, she could have been jailed up to 10 years and fined up to $20,000.

A student was jailed for 22 months on Monday after assaulting her prostitute friend's client who had demanded sexual services that she did not agree to.

Nur Azilah Ithnin was studying aerospace machining technology at ITE Central when she was part of a group who kicked and punched Mr Didier Moise Dominguez after he booked a session with Nuurul Aliyyah Abdul Talib, 23.

The French product line manager suffered a broken jaw and a black eye in the attack, spending four days in hospital.

Azilah, 20, had been concerned for her friend's safety so she and her accomplices accompanied Aliyyah to Marina Boulevard to meet the 53-year-old.

Later Aliyyah called them for help to "get out of her predicament" after refusing one of Mr Dominguez's demands.

Along with Aliyyah's brother, Ahmad Habiibul Hakim Assalafi, Malcolm Graham Head and his girlfriend, Veronica Patricia Rio, she rushed over to the Marina Bay Residences and attacked Mr Dominguez.

Wielding a knife she took from the kitchen, Azilah kicked the client. Hakim punched him and then covered the victim's face with a black shirt, telling his friends that whoever wanted to hit the man could do so. Azilah kicked him again, while Head punched him in the nose.

All five are said to be part of an online vice ring and Azilah was the first to be dealt with.

District Judge Siva Shanmugam jailed her for causing grievous hurt at around 1am on March 4 and consuming methamphetamine, or Ice, the previous day.

Hakim, 19, is scheduled to plead guilty on Oct 2, while cases against his sister and her alleged pimps Head, 33, and Rio, 19, are at pre-trial conference stage.

Azilah has previous convictions for harassment on behalf of loan sharks and mischief by fire.
