SINGAPORE : A woman was fined S$48,300 for importing into Singapore more than 150 pieces of fake designer goods.

43-year-old Mok Soo Khing was caught with items bearing the Louis Vuitton trademark at the Woodlands Checkpoint at around 1pm on 27 October 2009.

They include wallets, pouches and belts.

The court heard that Mok's friends had suggested that she buy counterfeit branded goods from Johor Bahru, Malaysia, to sell in Singapore for a profit.

On the day of her arrest, she had visited five shops across the Causeway to buy the items.

Mok paid about S$4 for each belt while each wallet costs about S$6.

She had intended to sell the goods to her friends at double the price.

Assistant Public Prosecutor Charlene Yang told District Judge Sarjit Singh that Mok declared the items at the Checkpoint and was soon detained by Customs officers.

For committing the offence, she could have been sentenced to a maximum of five years' jail, a fine of up to S$100,000 or both. - CNA /ls
