An unemployed man, who threatened his father and stabbed his elder brother after he intervened, was yesterday jailed for six months. Daniel Lim Wei Qiang, 25, was convicted of voluntarily causing hurt to his brother.

On Feb 16, Lim's brother and father were at a temple on Paya Lebar Road preparing for prayer rituals. Lim drove to the temple and shouted at the father saying that he wanted to stab him. Lim's brother warned that he would call the police if Lim persisted in making trouble. This agitated Lim, who then took out a knife and stabbed his brother in the back as he was walking away.

A psychologist report said that Lim was suffering from a medical condition called adjustment disorder and felt depressed, but was not mentally unsound and could appreciate what he was doing when he stabbed his brother.

According to Institute of Mental Health records, Lim was involved in gang activities since he was a teenager and frequently got into fights. He had been sent to a boys' home for fighting but failed to adapt. He also recently faced business and relationship problems.
