Manchurian tigers mauled a man to death after he and his son apparently wandered into the animals' enclosure in China

BEIJING — A group of Manchurian tigers mauled a man to death after he and his son apparently wandered into the animals' enclosure at a wildlife park in north China, state media said Monday. Workers at the Qinling Wildlife Park in Xian city rescued the man's 17-year-old son after being told the pair were in the enclosure with five tigers on Sunday, the Modern Express paper reported. The teen survivor told the paper that he and his 45-year-old father had walked into the enclosure after automatic gates opened up in front of them, and only became aware of the danger after the doors closed behind them.

Five tigers attacked the two at the Xi'an Qinling Wildlife Park in provincial capital Xi'an at around 1:20 pm Sunday, said zoo official Jiao Congling.
The father, 45, was taking his son, 17, for an outing after the son recently sat the national college entrance exam.

The man died at the scene after being bitten on the head and neck. The son was slightly injured. "The gate to the tigers' zone was open, so we walked in. Then the tigers attacked us," the son, surnamed Zhang, said. However, Jiao said warning signs are posted telling visitors not to enter the tigers' zone. Police have detained the zoo's manager pending an investigation.
