Police arrested three 19-years-old suspects in connection with loansharking activities on Wednesday.

Officers from Jurong Police Division, who were acting on information received, closed in on the three youths and seized loanshark-related paraphernalia, including three bottles of paint and mobile phones containing suspected debtors' records that were found in their possession.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are believed to have committed several cases of loanshark harassment on behalf of a loanshark by splashing paint and scrawling loanshark-related graffiti on the walls of HDB blocks in the Woodlands and Marsiling housing estates.

First-time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be punished with imprisonment for up to five years, a fine not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000, and mandatory caning of up to six strokes, said the police in a statement.
