While rare, freak accidents are still prone to taking place as it can happen out of nowhere and leave the victim maimed or dead as a result.​

A young woman in Taiwan died under sudden and unfortunate circumstances after an aircon unit fell from a building and hit her, killing her as a result.

21yo woman dies after aircon falls 17 floors down​

According to 8world News, the freak accident took place in New Taipei City, Taiwan yesterday (July 20) at around 1.11pm.

The victim, who was identified as 21-year-old Huang (transliteration), was waiting at a bus stop with her older sister at a building near Exit 2 of Xinpu MRT Station in Banqiao District, New Taipei City.

Suddenly, an aircon unit weighing 33kg fell 17 floors down and landed right on Huang, leaving her with bruises and caused both of her legs to be fractured.

Her sister, who witnessed the incident, quickly performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on Huang. Unfortunately, Huang succumbed to her injuries while on the way to the hospital.

Worker thought aircon was securely installed​

China Press reported that at the time of the incident, a worker was in the midst of installing the aircon unit which killed Huang at the 17th floor.
When questioned by police, he said that he thought the aircon was securely installed before releasing his hand.

He also said that he was standing inside the unit while mounting the air conditioner onto the wall outside. However, he admitted that he might not have tighten the screw properly, causing the aircon to descend 17 floors down.

Police are currently looking probing the case under charges of negligence causing death.

if it’s a ton of debris or rocks falling straight down from height no amount of 369-degree awareness can prevent anyone stuck in a vehicle or shelter from being crushed. people who are under a cover tend not to look up. who would walk around hdb blocks in covered walkways constantly look up for falling debris? i did that and i suffered a neck strain for 6.9 days. i would rather die instantly under some debris than suffer slow torture on the neck.
