SINGAPORE: Police have arrested a teenage boy for housebreaking and theft of cash cards from vehicles.
In the last two months, the police had received reports of missing cash cards from motor cars parked in the private compounds of Telok Kurau and Kembangan. The owners had left their vehicles unsecured and left their cash cards in the In-Vehicle Unit (IU).
Police were able to establish the identity of the suspect and arrested him near Eunos Crescent.
The teenager is believed to have gained entry into a number of houses by climbing over the gates and fencings to remove cash cards from vehicles which had not be locked.
He will be charged in court on Wednesday.
If found guilty of criminal trespass, he could face a jail term of up to 3 months, a fine or both. If found guilty of theft, he could be jailed for up to three years, be fined or both.
Police have advised residents to secure their vehicles, even if these are parked within their secured compounds, and refrain from leaving any valuables in their vehicles.
