Singaporean authorities nab suspected Malaysian drug courier at Tuas checkpoint

SINGAPORE: Authorities here have detained a suspected Malaysian drug courier and seized 1.4kg of heroin at the motorcycle arrival lane of the Tuas checkpoint.

The arrest of the 28-year-old man Thursday morning was made possible by the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) and the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA), with help from the Singapore Police Force (SPF)'s K-9 unit.

In a follow-up operation, CNB officers nabbed two local drug traffickers in connection with the seizure, and seized a small amount of heroin and party drug, 'ice'.

According to a joint statement by CNB and ICA, a team of ICA officers stopped the motorcyclist about 7.20am for routine checks.

ICA officers seized a black bundle concealed below the headlight of the Malaysian-registered machine, and notified the CNB officers as the bundle was believed to contain drugs.

CNB officers found four more black bundles below the right and left fairings of the motorcycle. In all, the bundles were found to contain heroin weighing about 1.4kg, and worth about S$160,000 (RM400,000.

Around 2.30pm the same day, CNB officers detained two male Singaporeans, aged 47 and 64, who were travelling in a Singapore-registered car in the vicinity of Woodlands Street 32.

Eighty-five straws of heroin weighing about 115g, a small packet of 'ice', drug paraphernalia, more than S$5,000 (RM12,500) cash, and two flick knives were seized from the vehicle.

The operation continued till the early hours Friday, with one more packet of heroin weighing about eight grammes found in another car in the same vicinity.

The Malaysian is being investigated for drug importation, and the Singaporeans, drug trafficking.

Upon conviction, the trio could face the death penalty under the Misuse of Drugs Act. - Bernama

SINGAPORE - Home Team agencies seized about 1.4kg of heroin from a Malaysian drug courier at Tuas Checkpoint on Jan 3.

Two local drug traffickers suspected to be responsible for the consignment were subsequently arrested by Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) officers.

On Jan 3, around 7.20am, Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers stopped a 28-year-old male motorcyclist for checks when they spotted a black bundle hidden below the headlight of the bike. Suspicious that the bundle contained controlled drugs, ICA notified CNB officers.

After searching the Malaysian-registered motorcycle, CNB officers found four more black bundles below the right and left fairings of the motorcycle. About 1.4kg of heroin was found and the Malaysian was arrested.

In a follow-up operation the next day, around 2.30pm, CNB officers arrested two male Singaporeans, aged 47 and 64, near Woodlands Street 32.

Another 85 straws of heroin weighing about 115g, a small packet of 'Ice', drug paraphernalia, more than $5,000 cash, and two flick knives were recovered from the car.

One more packet of heroin weighing about 8g was found in another car in the same area on Jan 4.

Police K9 unit was also deployed to search the vehicles.

The total seizure of 1.5kg of heroin and 0.4g of 'Ice' has a street value of about $160,000.

The 47-year-old and 64-year-old Singaporeans are being investigated for drug trafficking while the 28-year-old Malaysian is being investigated for drug importation. If convicted, they may face the death penalty under the Misuse of Drugs Act.
