<!-- story content : start --> A MAN was jailed for 12 months on Wednesday for sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl who had to choose between having sex with him or 'being fingered' to join a gang. Leslie Basil Netto, 25, admitted having sex with the underage girl in a bedroom of his friend's flat in Sengkang on Sept 20, 2008.
A district court heard that the then Secondary 3 student was asked to join a gang operating in Sengkang. She was reluctant but decided to help her friend who needed to recruit six girls into the gang.

On Sept 13 that year, she followed two friends to Sengkang where they waited and met Netto. He and the victim exchanged contact numbers. He called her at about 3 am that night and said, among other things, that every girl who entered the gang would need to have sex with him. When she refused, he stated that she had to be 'fingered by him' at the very least. He committed the offence a week later at his friend's flat after blindfolding her. She confided in a teacher at her school a few days later, and police were notified. Netto, an assistant manager of a restaurant, could have been jailed for up to 10 years and fined.
