Serial housebreaker nabbed
POLICE have arrested a 35-year-old man who is believed to be involved in at least five cases of break-ins committed at salons, churches and mosques located in the Ang Mo Kio, Braddell, and Novena area. Two cases of salon break-ins were reported in the vicinity of Ang Mo Kio Central last Tuesday and Friday.
In these cases, cash amounting to about $500 and hairstyling scissors valued at about $1000 were found missing. Officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division conducted follow-up investigations and mounted an ambush in the vicinity of Ang Mo Kio Central. Early Sunday morning, they spotted a suspicious man loitering outside a salon at Blk 712A Ang Mo Kio Central.
As the officers moved in to check on him, he fled from the scene. However, after a short chase, the suspect was detained at Blk 701 Ang Mo Kio Central. He will be charged on Monday for Housebreaking and Theft by Night under Section 457 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. If convicted, he can be jailed up to 14 years.
